Cris Carter felt he had some football left in him. The NFL apparently didn't -- at least at the price he wanted.
So the 36-year-old receiver retired Tuesday, ending a decorated and tumultuous career in which he caught more than 1,000 passes and scored 129 touchdowns in 15 seasons. He trails only Jerry Rice in catches and receiving touchdowns
Cris Carter doesnt get enough credit for being a great receiver and that says a lot because he gets a lot of credit. IMO he is easily the second best reciever of all time and unlike Jerry Rice Carter didnt have Joe Montana or Steve Young throwing to him.
He was a big trash talker wasn't he?
Very big trash talker and widely unpopular among former teammates for his constant chirping at them for mistakes.
There is a running joke in Minnesota that goes something like this: How many Vikings does it take to change a light bulb? 5......4 to screw it in and one, Cris Carter, to berate them and tell them there doing it wrong.
He had a great numbers career. He ran the gamut from Drug user, unfaithful husband to an outspoken religious freak in his later years. He was the definition of hypocrite. He made many mistakes,as we all do, but always blasted others for there's.

Ya know, being a Bears fan, I saw up close & personal how good that guy was. Without a doubt he's one of the top 5 all-time.
But, IMO, that is lessened a little because of his arrogance. In post-game interviews, that guy never missed an opportunity to toot his own horn & toss several back handed insults at us.
Of course, that could have been just because he was playing us that week, but it seemed like it was more personal than that. Not once did he ever compliment a Bears player.
We almost blanked him 3 games straight & he would say stuff like, Culpepper missed me on this play, they held me on that play,we were trying to establish the run etc..Not once ever...that kid did a good job, gotta give him credit, nothing. I've heard Ray Lewis compliment opponents on a good game.
Carter is a me-first & last guy. I think he feels more important to the game, than the game to him.
It'll show on HBO.
