Ryan Leaf is getting another shot in the NFL, returning to the state where he rose to prominence as a college quarterback.
The Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday signed the former Washington State star and No. 2 overall draft pick to a one-year contract -- one day after Leaf was released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Leaf, who has flopped in San Diego and Tampa, passed his physical examination with the Seahawks. The No. 2 pick in the 1998 draft will compete with rookie Jeff Kelly, a seventh-round choice this year, and free agent Ryan Van Dyke for the third-string job in Seattle.
Trent Dilfer is the starting quarterback and Matt Hasselbeck is Dilfer's backup.
