It got to the point in the Saturday game that I wondered when UNC would begin bringing position players in from the field to pitch -- the UNC pitching staff is that weak! Starter didn't even make it 3 innings. Sheesh! <img border="0" alt="[laugh]" title="" src="graemlins/laughing.gif" />

Should make for an interesting tournament.

This is one moronic post. So it didn't matter what happened in the Wake/Carolina series? According to your logic, they would still be third even if they had swept us. I guess that whole series was totally meaningless. Also, the ACC Championship is decided by the winner of the tournament, not the regular season unless you are like Carolina basketball and going to hang a banner every time someone sneezes. I wasn't making an excuse for anything. I was stating an observation. No one else hangs banners for Regular Season ACC Championships. Or, I like this one even better: ACC Champions. Then, in fine print: Regular Season Tie. No one else hangs one for every NCAA or NIT tournament appearance or mythical national championships that never even existed.

And since the Nose Dome is a taxpayer funded piece of sh*t, I think we need to have some more banners added representing the voters of the great state of North Carolina.

First off, I would like a banner reading Runner up - Civil War hanging next to the Helms Foundation banner.

Speaking on behalf of the non-UNC fan taxpayers of this state, I would like to see a banner recognizing the accomplishments of the 2001-2002 TarHoles. It should read We are sorry for the shame we brought on the conference in 2001-2002.

I finished second in a golf tournament Saturday and since my tax dollars help fund that piece of sh*t, I would like my own banner hanging.

I'll tell you what JDHole, BPD and I are going to come up with a foundation in about 20 years and vote ourselves a few mythical national championships to trump your Helms Foundation title, since that supposed title was awarded later after the Holes realized they needed to create some history for themselves.

I would also appreciate seeing the banners for every other school in the UNC school system transferred to the Dean Dome. I think the UNC-A banners will look dandy next to the Civil War banner and my golf banner.

I reckon that BPD would like to see you guys hang a banner of Castro up there as well to better represent your campus. While you are at it change the school color to red.

I think you're deluding yourself if you don't think Wake would hang a banner for even a mythical national title. I'll agree that it doesn't count as much as the other three we've won under the NCAA tournament format, but it was as fairly established institution's vote that we should be national champions. (Insert the standard so-and-so years after the fact argument here.) I think any other ACC school would also have something commemorating that if they could say the same.

I wasn't trying to belittle Wake before -- if UNC won the mythical national championship in football (or another sport in which we've never won the title), we would hang a huge banner for it and be damn proud of it.

I'll give you the argument about all our NCAA tournament banners. To some it may seem foolish, but I kinda like it anyway. We created our own way to signify the number of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances that we had (a streak about which no other school could boast). Those banners are for our school, not for anyone else....

LK: Be sure to make sure that this foundation you create in 20 years is an unbiased institution, widely regarded around the country as the foundation to determine the national champion.

Oh, and don't forget the most important part -- make sure your team goes undefeated that season.

Yes, it was a mythical national championship. Just like every college football national championship has been a mythical one.

No, there is a huge difference between a championship awarded in football by two polls, and a championship awarded years after the fact based on arbitrary research.

In 20 years if some foundation decides to award Auburn's 1995 team a national title because they were the only undefeated team(probation year), THAT would be a mythical national championship of the same magnitude as your Helm's foundation one.

Were we on probation in 1924??? And yes, I realize what you meant -- but, if Auburn had not been on probation that year, then maybe they win the national championship (by your all-knowing two polls). So, why even bring that up?

Speaking of which... so what you were saying in all of that is that you give no credence to the years where the two polls selected split national champions? Seems to me that those years would be a little more divisive than our 1924 national championship, since actually two teams were widely recognized as the national champions in those years. Our 1924 team is the only one voted as national champions.

Oh, and you can rag on the Helms Foundation all you want, but this is not some rinky-dink operation run out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is a national organization that announced a national champion from 1901 to 1982. Their choices are widely regarded around the United States.

I realize the fact that you want to undermine the choice because you don't like it. But please -- these arguments just makes you look jealous and foolish. If we want to call it a national championship because the only established institution out there voting on it called it a national championship, that does not mean we are trying to rewrite history for ourselves.
