Full Version: Looks like NC State has learned how to do the Dukie flop!

They've been doing it quite a bit against UCONN!
They've had the Dukie whine down for quite some time now too.

Perhaps I am confusing the NCSU fan persecution complex with the Dukie Whine.

Although I believe the NCSU fan persecution complex is not a learned behavior. There is an abundance of evidence indicating that NCSU fans are indeed born with this malady.

On the other hand, since nobody is actually born a Duke fan, the Dukie Whine must be a learned behavior.

Telling where it derives from doesn't define the term "Dukie whine".

Do you have a term for someone who posts opinions against NC State consistently on NC State boards?

I also have a term for someone who is a general nuisance on message boards and despite repeated banishments continues to register new usernames to be a pain in the ass. Care to guess what my name for him is?
So, what ACCbbs username are you on now? #3?

How many did you go through on ACCBoards? 45+?

Nice welcome you're giving a new poster, BTW.
I'm still waiting on your definition of the term "Duke whining".

I don't mind the childish trash talking about NC State, but generally I understand the terms you are using and the basis of said terms. I'll go ahead and recuse myself from this thread and await your response to this question which had me in a quandary.

She was the only mod who even had a problem with FUBAR as a username.

Simply put, the Dukie Whine is what I see every time one of their players gets a foul called on them. It is best exemplified by Mike Dunlady when a ref has the audacity to signal that he was indeed guilty of some foul. Observe Dunlady's facade during a game and you will see the visual manifestation of the Dukie Whine. Of course there is also the more audible manifestations whereby each Dukie will immediately complain to the referees upon being called for any foul.

And finally, they are led by coach KryScaredSh*tSki, who once famously whined about having to play in Lexington during the NCAA's cause he feared the Keeeeeeentucky natives would harbor too much animosity towards the Dukies.

Now, your question has been answered.
The Dukie whine???? Hold on....I have to whine about that one... lol... the only player that I MIGHT agree with your statement on is Dahntay Jones-- he seems to wear his emotions on his sleeves quite a lot-- other than that (oh, and the constant ability that Coach K has for getting on the refs-- I call that awesome coaching!! (:...) I have HONESTLY never seen Williams, Boozer, Dunleavy or Duhon WHINE about a call--they are usually in the huddle shaking their heads and saying "my fault"... really!!! lol

Seen every one!!! LOL-- I have seen much better/more experienced whiners in other uniforms........(cough)Wilcox(cough)
LOL (all in fun)
The Capel Whine is order of magnitude worse than anything being discussed here...
Josh Howard whines A LOT. His oncourt demeanor is VERY similar to that of Hodge's.
Yes, the Capel Whine is indeed entertaining to watch.

Whiteville - the difference between Howard and Hodge is that Howard has earned the right to be a punk on the court.

Pi, I have long since stopped taking you seriously.

I am oh so sorry you guys perceive that I am also posting opinions which may not paint your beloved Wolfpack in the best light.

Everyone is out to get you.

The persecution complex lives on.
Please accept my not-so-humble apologies for picking on you wolfpack fans.
Can I take a number to get into the queue of people wishing to persecute NCSU fans?

Swofford, Bunting, Tommy Bowden, the NCAA and those darn basketball officials are all clamoring for a shot to conduct themselves in a manner detrimental to NCSU and I would like a more ordered system where I get my fair shot.
It's called sarcasm young Pi.

And you know damn well that about 3 posts into this thread it became more than just a discussion of NCSU fans feeling picked on.
In an interesting coincidence, you are validating my claims made in jest by arguing against them.

It's the verbal assault forum, fire away. Just make sure it doesn't become a personal attack.
Ok, let's just get this out there so it can stop being used against any arguments or claims made on this thread:

Of course there are NC State fans that have a persecusion complex. I've noticed this from day one of associating with other NC State fans. Most don't have this complex, but a few, over years and years of having horrible things outside their control happening, have developed a complex. Most people who reference "The Curse" or "The Conspiracy" do so mostly in jest, because they too know that we have a portion of the fanbase that would do so seriously, and it's always fun to make light of one's own shortcomings.

But just because Pi is attempting to point out what he feels is slight or near persecution on your end(in a sole attempt to get you to realize how ridiculous you sound coming on NC State boards every 5 minutes to tell us we're ridiculous[More irony]), does not hold that he has a complex. I won't get into whether or not you persecuted, that's beside the point.

Of course if a foul is committed that sends the opposition to the line with a chance to turn a one point game into a two posession game, the fans of that team are going to be very, very upset. Even if it was an excellent call. It was a painful moment for all of us, regardless of the validity of the call. So you going over to our board to tell all the fans that were mad that it was an excellent call and NC State got the loss would be like myself going onto a Wake Forest board following the Josh Howard timeout and starting a thread about how the the correct call was made in that game, and Wake Forest deserved to lose(regardless of the fact I'm sure there was no dispute, for fans who didn't dispute the call from NC State, this is what it is like reading someone over within seconds of a very, very tough loss.) It's just unneeded. You know you're not going to find civility in angry fans from another team when you pour salt on their wounds.

Another good comparison would have been if I had gone to a Wake board and posted a picture of Craig Dawson getting his arm hit out of socket and said, "This was a good no call." It might be true, but that is clearly going to be a soft subject. Even if there were some angry fans who started saying it should have been a foul, there is no need for a fan of another school to go over and immediatly correct them, unless they just want to make them wallow in their team's most upsetting moments. The best policy to take in these cases, even if one wants to read the reaction of these fans, is described in Chris Matthews' national bestselling book Hardball. In it, Matthews has a chapter entitled, "Only Talk When It Improves the Silence".

So in closing, you are correct in observing that many NC State fans have a persecution complex. It's too bad you just didn't stick to observing to yourself, and felt the need to jump on any obviously incorrect statement made on an NC State board, because now it is clear that you have some sort of a complex with NC State.

Myself? I have a complex with fans who for no real reason like to jump on any little thing our fanbase says, and feels it is a correct assesment for the whole fanbase. So I'll save you the trouble of pointing that out.

[ March 19, 2002, 02:51 PM: Message edited by: jdoc1 ]
jdoc - I would like to see you show me one single place where I said that NCSU deserved to lose.

You are correct that I did in fact point out that the fould on Hodge was the correct call. I also pointed out that the non-call on Evtimov was most likely to be the erroneous call. If you are going to cite examples of me being an ass on the NCSU board you certainly can find something better than me offering up a fairly simple opinion on a basketball play. If posting my educated(fn 1) opinion on whether a call was correct on your board is so heinous as to incite NCSU fans to call me ******* , or label me as hating NCSU then so be it.

And Pi would be correct that a long time ago I did take a stance that my private school education was better than the one I would receive at NCSU. Color me anti-NCSU for that one. I prefer to look at it as pro-WFU instead.

I generally poke fun at NCSU athletics, or UNC athletics, or Duke, or any other ACC team including my own Deacs at times because it is, in fact, F-U-N! If you NCSU fans weren't so damn edgy about this stuff I think nobody would bother you. If you are looking for a sanitized website where only NCSU fans are allowed to post about NCSU athletics I am sure Statefans will accomodate you. Otherwise, you are going to have to live with the sweeping generalizations any of us care to make about NCSU. And you are more than welcome to debate them, as you are here. But keep in mind that both sides of the argument are more than welcome at all times.

In case you haven't noticed many people on this board have a sense of humor and wish to express is through poking fun at other schools. A hilarious consequence of this is when fans such as yourself really do take offense to it and get all riled up over it. I wish I could evoke that kind of response every time because it would make this board alot more lively. Posters like you do more to validate the stereotypes of the NCSU fans on these boards than anything I could ever post about NCSU. Truly brilliant, yet unintentional, consequence.

If you have an axe to grind with me personally you are more than welcome to use the private message feature to discuss it.

jdoc - I would think that a poster with the dubious track record you had at ACCBoards would not want to offer up suggestions on what others should be posting there.

Pi - At no time did I ever say I was glad I didn't "waste my time" at a state school. I certainly did point out that I believe an education at NCSU would not be as good for me as the one I received at Wake.

I said that trash talking is discouraged on the original board, whereas I've been told it is encouraged here. Clearly if trash talking is encouraged, you're going to inherently get a lower level of intelligent discourse. This thread is a prime example of trash talking getting in the way of an intelligent discussion, as it took a turn from the initial discussion to a "No, your player is more sucky!" I don't have a "Holier than Thou" attitude. But according to LK's definitions, you would have a persecution complex because of one incident of assuming you were being badmouthed.

So I guess my statement, made directly to ACCChaos, is rendered moot.
