The USA hung in there pretty well, but the Germans scored late in the first half, and nearly scored again when they clanked one off the post.

Come on USA...you can do it!

And... the Germans hang on to the 1-0 lead and eliminate the US, despite several tantalizingly close chances for the Americans in the second half.

If anything, it's a sign of respect that the Germans went into a defensive shell later in the game.

But no, it's not to be.

It was a great run for the Americans! We're darn proud of you guys! We love you!

If only we could catch a break...

Bummer.
