As winner of the round robins, Alinghi Challenge was able to select one of the other top four teams to race in the quarterfinals -- they chose Prada. Also, the fifth place finisher Victory Challenge was able to select from the bottom three, and they chose Le D
A little update for any folks that might be paying attention out there: we are at the Semifinal Repechage stage of the aforementioned list.
One team is already in the Louis Vuitton Finals -- the Swiss Alinghi team. The two teams fighting for the other spot are Oracle BMW and OneWorld Challenge, which are both American crews.
OneWorld has been deducted one point for obtaining improper information on one of the other boats (how that is possible, I have no idea). It seems like it was more of a formality than anything else, but those are apparently the rules. So, OneWorld must win an extra race at every level they reach to advance. For instance, the Semifinal Repechage is a best-of-seven match -- so Oracle must win four races to advance, while OneWorld must win five.
