Official thread of all free agent signings and rumors this summer. Free agents could start talking to teams this morning.

The earliest word is that the Suns offered Kobe the max deal.
Saw that on ESPN. Unbelievable!!!! 6 years for 100 million dollars!
So much for that. Steve Nash will go to Phoenix next season, making too much for the Suns to offer the max to Kobe as well.

I like the Steve Nash signing. That gives them Nash, Joe Johnson, Marion, and Stoudemire. That is very solid, putting them at least in the playoffs at this point.
That team is currently a playoff team. 04-rock

oooh, official. how cool. :D
Two more today...

The Nuggets locked up Marcus Camby in a multiyear deal, he and Nene are a solid 4-5 combo. The Nuggets need a solid starting SG though, like a Brent Barry or Manu Ginobili if they want to keep up their playoff run.

The Mavs locked up Marquis Daniels for 6 years and $38 mil. Solid player, don't know if he has proved himself to make that much. He was a product of a great playoffs last year, the Mavs are hoping he keeps it up.
Marquis was a soild guard for the Mavs when Michael Finley was injuried.
Its also being reported that Boozer has agreed to resign with the Cavs, not surprisingly. No major sites have reported it though.
Adonal Foyle is going to sign a 5 year deal with the Warriors. He will be their starter next year. He is a solid center that got a lot of interest, but it will definitely be a downgrade from Dampier.
so where do u think dampier is headed?
tysramm1 Wrote:so where do u think dampier is headed?
If Shaq is traded, maybe LA. Or maybe in Boston. But I doubt it would be back in Golden State.

By the way, that Adonal Foyle deal was 5 years and $42 mil! That seems excessive for an unproven center.

And Boozer has not totally decided on the Cavs, he is also talking to the Nuggets.

why would you sign adonal foyle for that much $$$, he is now stuck on the warriors no matter how bad he is, dont teams learn from people like calvin booth not to dish out a ton of $$ to unproven reserve centers
Also reported, the Jazz have signed Mehmet Okur to an offersheet and have resigned Gordon Giricek. Solid pickups, the Jazz sure like their Europeans. With Arroyo, Giricek, Harpring, Kirilenko, and Okur, the west is looking stronger by the minute.

i saw the pistons signed okur for big money.
"source told ESPN's David Aldridge on Tuesday that the Jazz wil sign Okur to a six-year, $50 million offer sheet next week, when Okur returns from Turkey. And ESPN Insider's Chad Ford reports that Giricek has agreed to a four-year, $16 million deal with Jazz, according to a source close to the negotiations."

why would the jazz waste all of their money on okur, doesnt make much sense
tysramm1 Wrote:why would the jazz waste all of their money on okur, doesnt make much sense
Okur fits in well with the Jazz offense, better than traditional centers. I think he was paid a bit too much, but that seems to be the theme.
Word in Detroit is that they will be able to resign Rasheed Wallace after Dumars talked to Wallace yesterday. Dumars already said last week that they couldn't resign both Wallace and Okur, so I wouldn't expect to see the Pistons match the Jazz offer for Okur.
rocketfootball Wrote:Word in Detroit is that they will be able to resign Rasheed Wallace after Dumars talked to Wallace yesterday. Dumars already said last week that they couldn't resign both Wallace and Okur, so I wouldn't expect to see the Pistons match the Jazz offer for Okur.
True, and even if they lose Wallace I don't think they would match on Okur. They would probably shift gears toward Kenyon Martin.
Also, the Raptors sign Rafer Alston for 6 years and 29 mil. Finally a good decision for Toronto, this guy is a great player that should unseat Alvin Williams for the starting job.
The Magic have signed Hedo Turkoglu to an offersheet of 6 years $39 mil, the Spurs will have 15 days to match. It would be a good pickup for the Magic, he would backup Grant Hill, meaning a lot of playing time. A lineup of Francis, Mobley, Hill, Gooden, and Cato would be a playoff contender in the east.
Quentin Richardson also signed with the Phoenix Suns for $50 mil, but where does he fit? They have Joe Johnson there already. One of those guys will become a sixth man of the year candidate, unless of course the Clippers match. If they don't get Kobe, they probably will.
Now this is a deal. The Jazz resign Carlos Arroyo for 4 years and $16 mil. This guy is a top 20 point guard that will get much better. By far the best deal so far this offseason. What a point guard rotation the Jazz have in Carlos Arroyo and Raul Lopez! The best in the league right now.
The Celtics resign Mark Blount for six years and $41 mil. This guy is twice as good as Foyle, yet they make the same amount of money. Solid, but the Celtics still have some work to do to stay in the playoffs in the East.

best rotation in the league, no way. Any team with a good/great pg and a backup on the team is better, how about francis and nelson, b davis or kidd & anyone.
I would easily take two point guards capable of averaging 17 points and 7 assists over a great point guard and just a backup.
Busy night....

Carlos Boozer shocks the Cavs and leaves to go to Utah for 6 years and $68 mil! Utah has money coming out of the wazoo, with Boozer, Okur, Giricek, and Arroyo. Boozer fits in perfectly with Jerry Sloan, and that is a pretty nice forward combo of him and Kirilenko. This is a big blow to the Cavs.

Brian Skinner signs a 5 year and $25 mil contract with the Sixers, and he may not even start. The Sixers have other pressing needs and they already have a strong frontcourt with Thomas, Dalembert, DC, and Marc Jackson. This move makes no sense for either side.

Come on, Kenyon! Atlanta needs you.
Being a UC fan I hope Kenyon doesnt go to Atlanta, no offense G-Dawgs. Kenyon needs to go to a contender, such as, Denver.
No offense taken. But I want K-Mart really bad.
Martin should not leave the Nets. Jason Kidd makes this guy twice as good a player. This would be a good signing for the Hawks, but is K-Mart worth the max? I don't think so.
GDawgs88 Wrote:No offense taken. But I want K-Mart really bad.
K-Mart would fit well with your new rookies. All of them like to run(Josh Smith, Donta Smith, Josh Childress).
cbfranchise3 Wrote:Martin should not leave the Nets. Jason Kidd makes this guy twice as good a player. This would be a good signing for the Hawks, but is K-Mart worth the max? I don't think so.
New Jersey has the same problem Detroit used to have, they dont have a great scorer.
how come nobody has metioned how big of a jerk, Boozer is?
flyingswoosh Wrote:how come nobody has metioned how big of a jerk, Boozer is?
If the reports are true, Boozer is a jerk. The problem is, you can't have any agreement of any kind before July 1. So the Cavs can't do anything about it. I honestly thought that Boozer was better than this, but that just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover.
Other quick signings...

Brent Barry signed with the Spurs for $24 mil and 4 years. The Spurs are the best team in the NBA right now with the resigning of Manu Ginobili and Bruce Bowen.

Brian Cardinal got paid $39 mil to be a backup forward for the Grizzlies.

The Hawks signed Stephen Jackson and traded him to the Hawks for Al Harrington. Great move by the Hawks, Harrington will average 20 points per game in Atlanta. Jackson can score, but I have never been a big fan of his. Better move for the Hawks. 04-bow
i love how people complain about baseball salaries being too high.

team payrolls in baseball are higher, so it balances itself out

of course they are. baseball has more players, and doesn't have a salary cap. So it stands to reason that baseball teams would spend more money.

Simple math
25>14 (or however many basketball players)
Other signings...

Pistons sign Antonio McDyess $24 mil in 4 years. Great move by the Pistons obviously, to replace Okur. Joe Dumars knows how to build championship ball teams.

The Bucks have signed Etan Thomas to a 6 year $36 mil contract. The Wizards should match this and keep him. If they don't, Thomas is a Dennis Rodman without the attitude.
Other signings...

Rasheed Wallace resigns with the Detroit Pistons for six years, the Postons will be the favorites going into next year.

Troy Hudson resigns with the T-Wolves.

Doleac signs to back up Shaq with the Heat.
Free agents could officially be signed starting yesterday, here is a link to all official transactions.

kobe is going to sign with the clippers tomorrow, since this is an "official free agency thread" its not really official, but more of a prediction. And i discussed it with my sources, and they say I have a shot at being correct
As of now, if I also had to make a prediction, I also think he will sign with the Clippers.

my sources say there is a good chance kobe will be in LA next season
K-Mart to the Nuggets for 3 future first round picks.
No surprise...Kobe back to the Lakers.
He should have gone to the Clippers.

Shaun Livingston
Kobe Bryant
Corey Maggette
Elton Brand
Chris Kaman

Chris Wilcox
Marko Jaric

Not bad.
Derek Fisher signed with the Warriors for 6 years and $37 mil. What are the Warriors doing? Having one of the worst off-seasons ever. First Foyle, then this. Not that Fish doesn't deserve the money, but they already have Van Exel and Claxton. They better be trading somebody, otherwise one of those three is going to be riding the bench.
I also dont understand why fisher would want to sign with the warriors, they dont really seem to be going anywhere, also I dont see why they didnt use some of this money they're tossing around at random this year to resign Arenas last year, who is going to be an all star for years to come.

there is no way fisher deserves over $6 million/year. Although, i guess if adonal foyle can get all that money, than so should fisher.

BTW, didn't you say Fisher would probably go to the Rockets?
