I didn't vote, JJ, cuz none of the options really fit my true opinion of Ali. I agree, the fact is he was a draft dodger, but he was/is Islam and the true nature of Islam does not believe in fighting. However, considering his occupation, at the time as a boxer, it's kinda confusing isn't it? Also, I don't know the whole story about his dodging the draft, so I don't know if he was sincere or not with his reasonings behind not going to Vietnam. Whatever the case, he was still a fighter, so I guess he totally contradicted himself anyways didn't he? Ok, I've now reached a verdict.....

Upon further review, I'm not sure I could ever call someone who was physically capable to go fight a war for his country and DECLINING to do so an American Icon.

Cascious Clay (sp) changed his name to Muhammed Ali so he wouldn't have to fight for his country. Instead, while our men were putting their lives on the line, he was raking in millions.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire, but I would piss on him if he wasn't!!!

Seriously, I agree with you though.

Sure he was a draft dodger (so was Clinton), but he still is an American Icon.

No matter what you think of him on a personal level, he is without a doubt the greatest pro boxer ever IMO. I had the chance to watch some of his bouts when I was just a kid. An Ali in his prime would kill these ham and eggers we have today. Lewis and Tyson wouldn't stand a chance vs Ali.

Nature Boy is right. He was the Greatest. Nobody was in his league. The fights with Joe Frazier were amazing. Ali gave up everything for what he believed in. Gotta give him credit for that. He could have left the country and nobody could have touched him. He chose to stand his ground and take his punishment. He was, IMHO, an honorable man. Plus, he was funny as crap. Read his Autobiography. You will see inside the man and understand his choices.

Not hardly!! The mere mention of his name turns my stomach.

Ali was a great fighter, but he was a draft dodger. You cannot deny either of those facts.
