It looks like Free-Agent pitcher Kevin Appier is set to rejoin the Royals, the team he pitched for from '89 through '99.

Appier was 7-7 with 5.63 ERA with Anahiem before being released.

What do you think of this move bigolhawg?
Appier may be a bit past his prime, but it seems that magical things are happening to pitchers in KC this year, just look at Jose Lima the previous year he was cut by the tigers (the frikin TIGERS). I wouldnt be suprised at all to see Appier pitch great for his his old team, he was one of the best pitchers in all of baseball when he was there, I have a feeling some of that is going to return.
I agree. He's what's referred to as a money pitcher, a guy who can give you some big starts in the pennant run.
not like i hate appier, but you guys are saying he can make some big starts during a penant run, but during an earlier topic you called him mediocre. How can he go from mediocre last year (he had a better season last year) to a money pitcher this year?

I don't remember calling him mediocre.

And if I did, that doesn't mean he's not a money pitcher.

Take Russ Ortiz for an example. He was just 14-10 last year, but was about unhittable in the playoffs. That's an example of a money pitcher.
but Ortiz had a good ERA. Also, i don't recall appier being great in the playoffs.
Appier wasn't very good in the WS last year.
He may have had a bad start or two but I think I remember him throwing some great games towards the end of 2001 to get the Mets back in the NL East race.
that was a couple of years ago, he's a different pitcher now. Also, he had a really good season in 2001. He threw 206 innings with a 3.57 ERA. I don't know how you can justify Appier throwing really well down the stretch.
I think he would continue to have a mediocre record and a high ERA if he pitched for a traveling All-Star team.
You're really taking that one comment a long way swoosh.

Look, Appier is a veteran pitcher who COULD give the Royals some good starts IMO. Is that better?
i don't wanna sound like a jerk and i know what you're saying, but i don't see any reason to believe appier will do anything special.
It's okay.

We may have a slight disagreement on this issue, but you're still a pretty good guy. 03-wink
I love it. Appier was my favorite pitcher for ten years, and seeing him back in a Royal uniform puts a smile on my face. He still lives in the KC area, and I think he will do a great job since he spent his best years in KC toiling away on a terrible ballclub and never got to see them contend, and now as his career comes to a close, he has a chance to help the Royals get a playoff spot.

But since they are playing like ****** right now, just lost first place tonight and have now lost four straight, something needs to happen quick. There have been too many injuries, and just not enough guys to replace the injured. And, after this Tampa Bay series is over, its just under a month of playing the Yankees and the Twins. Not a good time to be at your worst level all season.
I don't think anyone wants to pass the Royals right now.
