The Yankees today traded reliever Armando Benitez to Seattle for setup man Jeff Nelson, a former Yankee.
I think this will turn out to be a great trade for New York. However, I think Seattle will soon regret making the deal.
The damn Yankees definitley got the better end of this one. Does anyone else think that Nelson's critical comments just after the trade deadline have anything to do with him getting dealt?
I dont really see how this deal makes any sense for the Mariners unless they expect Benitez to close...has there been any word on if he is going to be the closer for the M's?
i heard he's gonna close for now

That's suicide for Seattle.

Sure is. I don't understand this deal at all. I guess they just wanted to dump Nelson after he criticized management last week.
The real team that might have got the better end of this deal is the A's. This helps their chances of winning the West A LOT!

It also means that Shigitoshi Hasegawa is now usesless on my fantasy team.

Probably. He was talking about other teams getting what they need and how the Mariner's didn't do anything. Of course, Bret Boone did the same thing and he is still there.
Hey Terpy,
Hasegawa has a minicule ERA if that is a stat in your league. I had to cut him yesterday. I didn't cut him because of Benitez.....I heard that Sasaki is coming back next week.
Also, Brendan (sp) Donnelly of the Angels has a low era if you need it and he's available.
tim kurkjan just said that hasegawa is gonna close for awhile, because sasaki isn't ready yet.
