Man I played that game for HOURS and never got a gold rush. I watched others and still never got one. Just my luck I suppose.....

I got bored and rarely went back to play after that first day. I was too involved in reading a good book at home and I can't play at work.

Getting the "goldrush" is definitely a stroke of luck. But, you can increase your chances at that luck with a lot of lesser straights. I got in a good groove and was nailing a lot of them when I finally got a goldrush and hit my high score.
I only got two goldrushes. The first took my score up to 15,000 or so. During the second, I got the extra joker when my score was still in the high teens. But, even though the "goldrush" was over, I was somehow able to keep clearing the board (and racking up points) from all the gold cards and jokers.
