Both are very deserving, that's for sure. But I gave it to Pujols, just for the mere fact that he doesn't appear to be the world's biggest ***** in the game of baseball.

I would like to see Pujols get it but at this point it is too close to call. Bonds is the only great hitter on a really great team and Pujols is the best hitter on a really good offensive team. I think if the Cards fail to make the playoffs Bonds will get it and if Pujols leads the Cards to win the NL Central or the Wild Card he will get it. It is very interesting how everyone knows it is a two man race in the NL but it is wide open in the AL with no true leader.

why do you hate bonds? Why do you think he's the world's biggest ***** in baseball?

Cardinals without Pujols- 1 Win, 2 Losses and 9 runs scored in 3 games.
Giants without Bonds- 0 Wins, 4 losses and 4 runs scored in 4 games.
The first day Bonds was back he won the game singlehandedly (however you spell it).

While I do listen to some of the writers that bash him, I can only agree with them based on what I know and have heard from a friend. I know someone who used to work in the clubhouse of a MLB team, and says that everything written about Barry is as true as it gets, and even says the writers are being too nice. He is the loser of which you speak, not Kent. Sorry to have awakened you from your coma.

It's too bad you haven't convinced me. All of his teammates like him and while they could lie, I don't think they are doing so. Kent had no problem saying what he thinks of Bonds. When Kent and Baker left, the clubhouse got better and there was no more jealousy.
Also, you still haven't answered why you think bonds is and jerk.

Bonds is arrogant and not humble. Wow!! Name me any great star that isn't arrogant. And you would never know, because the ones who you think are humble are just sucking up to the media, i.e. Gary Carter and Cal Ripken.
As opposed to the Babe, Bonds never risked his career by drinking, partying and carousing all night. If Babe played in this era, where the athletes and media are adversaries, he would have ended up in rehab. As it is, he missed almost an entire season because he drank and ate himself out of commission.
Bonds has never been in trouble, shows up for every game, competes as hard as anyone and has played with injuries that would put anyone else on the DL for months. He has been on the DL once in his whole career, and that was in 1999 with an elbow so bad, he needed a serious operation in the middle of the season. He came back in 6 weeks (unheard of) and still managed to hit 34 home runs.
Bonds' problem is he says what's on his mind, not like most athletes who are more concerned with their image than the truth. He is one of those rare people who doesn't care what anybody else thinks of him, especially the media. and let's face it, aside from politicians, there's no group who is less trustworthy than the media. they will do anything to portray Bonds in a bad light, because he's not nice to them. Who cares, I'm a Giants fan. I don't root for sportswriters, they're just idiot fans who happen to get paid to watch the game.
Bonds has been criticized for having a recliner in the locker room. He paid for that recliner, out of his own pocket, on the recommendation of the team trainer who said it would be good for his back. By the way, is there a player in the game who works harder to stay in shape than Barry? Any other player on the team could have bought a recliner too.
It's amazing how the sports writers point to his relationship with Jeff Kent as proof that Bonds is a jerk. Has anyone ever noticed what a jerk Kent is? when he played in NY they hated him. Kent seemed to go out of his way to bad mouth Bonds. Did you, ever once, see or hear Bonds bad mouth kent. By the way, Barry was not the one who sacrificed the teams chances of winning by hurting himself on a motorcycle, even though it violates his contract. That was the great Jeff Kent.
Dusty Baker, who I love as a manager, would go out of his way to show how hard his job was because he had to handle Bonds. What an obvious self-promoter! Not once have i heard Alou say anything but great things about Bonds. But then again, Felipe is confident enough in his ability to not have to promote himself at the expense of making someone else look bad.
Cal Ripken never travelled with the team, rode on the team bus, or stayed at the team hotel and put his streak above the team, but he was never criticized by the writers.
Mark McGwire acted like a major a-hole during his run to 70 homers until he saw Sammy grabbing all the publicity, then he decided he better be nice if he wanted to cash in. All of sudden his son (who lives with his mother, not McGwire) started showing up and hugging him.
All I can say about Bonds is: he is only about winning, not about image. who else could take 198 walks, rather than swing at bad pitches and try and pad his stats? What's so bad about that?

I like the way you are trying to defend the classless jerk called Barry Bonds by slinging mud about other players, whom weren't even part of this conversation until you brought them up. This has nothing to do with anyone else but Barry. You wanted to know why some of us hate him so much, and when I showed you, here comes the mud-slinging because that is really your only option. You can't say anything that Barry does is positive, just sling trash about others. Very cool!
Who else slings mud like that? Oh that's right, politicians. Didn't you mention how untrustworthy politicians are in your long-winded post? I think you did, now what was it you said about politicians again?

I don't like Bonds for many reasons. For one, whenever he hits a home run he sits there and stares at it. Two, he has no respect for the legends of the game. And third, he's just not a very nice guy.
I'm not going to say he's not a great player, because he definitely is. I just am not a fan of him.

Manny Ramirez watches the ball also. What's worse, Bonds standing there or Sosa doing his retarded little hop? Reggie Jackson stared at it all of the time. Griffey (When he could actually play) stared at it more than Bonds .
I don't see how he doesn't respect the legends of the game.

The Baseball Hall of Fame also has a wing dedicated to the Babe. I've been there 4 times and I'm pretty sure he is the only player to have his own section.

Yea, but tjhat's because he was the first great power hitter. We aren't arguing how great the Babe was, we're arguing Bonds' attitude.
Just for the record, the women who played when the men were at war, have their own wing also.

I mentioned all of those players because i wanted to show, for instance, that Bonds isn't the only one to ever stare at a home run. If you thought i was trashing those guys, you thought wrong. I find nothing wrong with staring at a home run, i just wanted to bring to your attention the guys who do so.
Earlier i brought up Ripken and McGwire, not to trash them, but to show everyone that there are other players with so called ego problems. I have no problem with anything Ripken or McGwire did, I just wish people would mention them when trying to diss Bonds.
Lastly, besides Bonds watching his Home Runs, nobody has any real reason why they hate Bonds. You call him a jerk and when i ask why, you say because everyone hates him, or because he's a jerk. That's some crappy evidence.

I hate him because he's a hotdog with an ego problem. He's a smartass when talking to reporters and acts like the world owes him something. He has beat the crap out of his wife in the past and if I'm not mistaken...didn't want to support a kid he fathered.
I hate him and I always will. I couldn'ty care less whether you like the reasons I gave, he's still a classless jackass to me and ALWAYS WILL BE!!

thanks, seriously, you're the first person to actually give some kind of a reason (whether i like them or not), besides he's a jerk. If i'm not mistaken, there was never any proof that Bonds beat his wife. he was cleared of all charges.
He's not a smartass with the media anymore, but when he was it was because of what they did to his father when he was young. If your father was trashed by the press when you were a kid, you'd hold a big time grudge.
Bonds loves his kids more than most people love their's.
Lasltly, i don't want to drag the Babe into this, but how come, just for the record, nobody mentions that he was an adulterer and would stop off with hookers before the games.

Here's what I've noticed:
Most people here think Bonds is a jerk or ******-hole. But they provide no solid evidence. As far as the Babe thing, I read the article, and it just seems like the guy is digging for any trash on Bonds he can find. The quote was almost like the Rockies "gay-bashing" () quote. The journalist is just trying to get attention. As far as naming other players, swoosh has that right because all of the claims so far such as arrogance around the media and watching his HRs are being used like he is the only one who's doing it. Its not mudslinging at other players, its using other players to clear Bonds of being the only one guilty of it.
So far Swoosh seems to be winning this arguement because everyone is claiming Bonds is a jerk, yet need to provide valid evidence of his actions. The closet to evidence is the sports column (talked about above), yet it is only one piece of evidence and not very strong at that.
Please note: I am not a Bonds or Giants fan.
