Here's how the folks at ESPN think it will go down....

Jayson Stark's Redsox over Cubs is just wishful thinking.
I wonder what the preseason odds of that matchup were.

Yeah, you can't really put a lot of stock into these picks. I mean, ESPN picked the Phillies to win the NL East!

So did I. :(
C'mon Terpy! How can you pick against Atlanta until someone proves they can beat us?
You guys lost Glavine and Millwood. I didnt think your pitching would be good enough. I guess it didnt matter and Russ Ortiz turned out to be a lot better than I thought he would be.

how could russ ortiz be better than you thought he'd be? he does this every year, except this year he pitched a little worse than usual.
He was better than I thought he was. I didnt realize how good he was. Why do you jump all over someone as soon as they utter the word Ortiz?
i don't jump all over people. I'm just amazed at how little people know about ortiz when he is with the giants and when he goes to the Braves he's so popular. Also, with the Giants ortiz was known as the guy who couldn't turn into an ace. As soon as he got to the Braves he was known as the ex-giants' ace. In the Braves game today, they said that you need to jump on ortiz early because he gets stronger as the game goes on. Last year it was said that ortiz couldn't last past 6 or 7 innings.
I don't see how you know the names of all these closers who had poor performances in the playoffs, but you don't know that ortiz was a good pitcher with the Giants. lastly, ortiz is nearly the same this year as he was with the giants but now he's the cy young. it seems like people on the braves or any other team are more revered than the Giants' players. today harold reynolds said the Giants bullpen was their weak link. They have one of the top 3 bullpens in all of baseball.
The Giants and their players are always so under-appreciated, and never talked about.
Its called the East Coast Bias get used to it.
Also why should I trust your (obviously biased) opinion of the Giants bullpen over Harold Reynolds expert opinion?
the funny thing is that i'm not biased. It's hard to believe but i can admit when the Giants suck or when a player is playing horribly. Haven't you recognized that the experts never do their HW and know nothing about what they're talking about. These experts never watch the games at all. The so called expert, John Sickels, said that Jesse Foppert threw in the mid 90's. it turned out that he could barely reach 90. Lastly, one guy said yesterday that the Giants were unsure if Hammonds or Benard would be the last OF on the playoff roster. If he had been watching the Giants he would know that they would never keep Benard.

Worse than usual? Looking at his stats, I can't find a year he won 21 games before.
Jesus, what don't you get about 6.49 runs per game? Even Colby Lewis has 10 wins and he has a 7.30 ERA! Look at Ortiz's ERA the past 2 years, they were much better than this year. Plus, he had 17 wins 2 years ago
you're more biased than i thought you were.
Hey swooshy, how did your boy Ponson look? :D
I told you this guy would flop in the playoffs.

TO HECK WITH ERA! JUST WIN BABY! :D

Ponson was horrinle, in the 5th inning. I'm not gonna say you're right about ponson yet. He was breeezing until the 5th, so i'm gonna give him one more start before i judge.

If you pitch like ortiz did this year and you win the same amount of games, it should be your lineup who wins the cy young, not you.

i understand, but what i meant is; if you have that many wins with that ERA, all of the credit should go to your lineup.
His ERA for the season was 3.81 which isnt bad at all. The way you talk one would think his ERA was 6.50 or something. Give it a break.
terpy can you not read, noone ever said that ortiz had an era of 6.50
wow

Can we end the Ortiz bashing?
