no! How can you say that was Worrell's fault? Jose Cruz Jr. ahould be brutally murdered. The inning before, Neifi perez dropped that soft liner and that made Worrell throw more pitches. So no i don't think closers are that important, but i do think fielding is.

pedro feliz, todd linden, hammonds, the bat boy, felipe Alou, a homeless guy, it douesn't matter. Jose Cruz can't hit (which i already knew). The only thing he could do was field, if he can't do that he's less than useless.

the giants should have put up several more runs than they did, after they left the bases loaded in the sixth they were flat the rest of the game, cruz just sealed it

It was Worrell's fault and here is why. There were no outs when Cruz made his error to allow Connine to get on. Connine himself made a huge mistake in not advancing to second on the play. If Worrel had made good pitches and got people out it would have been a non issue but he didnt. Of course he made a fantastic play to make the second out but he failed to get the third out. He knew what he had to do and he didnt get the job done. You cannot blame the loss on Cruz.

that is the most stupid thing i've ever heard. Because of the giants defense Worrell had to throw 46 pitches! He's never even come close to that. He was dead tired when alex gonzalez came up. Cruz deflated the Giants when he couldn't score the run in the top of the inning and couldn't make the catch in the bottom of it.
I didn't like the pitch to Pudge, but i can't blame worrell for losing that game.

If he was tired they should have taken him out...this would be Alou's fault.
Please explain how Worrell having to pitch 46 pitches is Jose Cruz's fault? He threw exactly 3 pitches to Jeff Conine.

i'm not saying just Cruz. What about neifi perez? Perez is the best SS i've ever seen, but he couldn't catch castillo's ball, the inning before.
Add one more out to both innings, now how many less pitches does Worrell throw?
Who was Alou going to put in? Brower? that would've been great.
