what about Schmidt?
CG 3 hit shutout
CG 3 hit shutout

the marlins are a good offensive team, but they are certainly not the braves
10-04-2003, 12:51 PM
no, but schmidt threw a shutout and gary Sheffield sucks in the playoffs. He's a non factor.
10-04-2003, 02:25 PM
sheffield is certainly a factor, and the braves lineup is better than the marlins without him Sheffield anyway
10-04-2003, 03:10 PM
sheffield has been horrible in this post season and last years'. Sheffield being the way he is, makes the Braves lineup much worse. Schmidt was better.

isn't this priors first postseason start? he pitched great, but its only one game, you cant call him the best postseason pitcher yet.

First of all I meant this year, I thought that was pretty obvious.
Even though Schmidt got the shutout, watching both games you got the sense that Prior had more control of the game and dominated the game more.
About Sheffield, even if he goes hitless, he is still a presence and a factor in the lineup because of his incredulous numbers this season. Its like Steve Kerr, he doesnt have to shoot the three to be a factor on the floor, his presence alone is enough to change the game and open up the floor. My point is that the Braves hitting is better than the Marlins hitting, which puts what Prior did ahead of Schmidt in my book.

but schmidt threw a shutout, prior gave up a run. Plus, the marlins aren't that much worse than the braves. How can you say Prior had more control over the game? Prior walked 4 and hit a batter, Schmidt didn't hit or walk anyone. Schmidt threw like 113 pitches, prior threw 133.
Pierre is better than Furcal
Castillo is better than Giles (barely)
Pudge is better in the playoffs than Sheffield
in the other spots the Braves have the advantage except for Conine and Vinny Castilla.

You still aren't addressing my point, the braves overall are a better hitting team than the marlins.

i don't think they are, at least not in the playoffs. Let's say that the Braves are slightly better, Schmidt was more than slightly better than Prior.

I agree with you on Sheff though. He can't hit in October.

I think the Braves lineup is more slightly better than the Marlins than Schmidt was better than Prior, if Schmidt was even better than Prior. But it doesn't matter now, Schmidt is out of the playoffs.

I don't want to make it seem like Giles stinks. I think Giles is awesome, he and Javy did wonders for my fantasy team.

Two little facts are painfully obvious in this thread.....
1) Prior and the Cubs have just advanced in the playoffs, Schmidt and Co. did not.
And.....
2) flyingswoosh is still a Mo! :stupid:

you're such an idiot! We aren't talking about who's team advanced, we're talking about who threw a better game. The Giants losing, had nothing to do with Schmidt.
