VORHEES, United States (AFP) - Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins will miss the National Hockey League Stanley Cup playoffs after a brief return to the lineup.

Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said Wednesday that a metal plate protecting Desjardins' injured right forearm broke while he was playing catch with his son. Desjardins will have a bone graft on Friday and will be unable to participate in the playoffs.

"He's done for the season," Clarke said. "The doctors said it doesn't happen very often, but it happened to Eric."

The Flyers open their Eastern Conference first-round series against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

Desjardins underwent surgery on a broken right forearm in January and returned to the lineup for the final three games of the regular season.
Thats a tough break. Best of luck on the recovery.
