If you were a team owner, and you were to keep one of the following pitchers which pitcher would you keep, pitcher A with20 wins with a 5 era, or pitcher B with 10 wins and a 3 era, in an identical number of starts for the same team?
I would take pitcher A, the one with more wins. Some players and pitchers just know how to win, and are successful at what they do, also having a lot of wins also indiates that the pitcher is good at not giving up big innings at key times. While a lot of the wins are likely due to increased run support, a pitcher that wins regularily is more important than a pitcher with a good ERA.
I would easily take pitcher B, no contest.
i agree with cbf. Hands down, i'd take pitcher b. as cbf said, "no contest."
also, how old are the two pitchers?
I'd go with pitcher B. While he wins fewer games, his low ERA means he always keeps his team in the game.
