The last time I had any idea about what was going on with the Globetrotters they were a Saturday morning cartoon and may still be for all I know about them.........................Too bad Meadowlark and Curly weren't there.

Think about it, O great expert of animal anal anatomy, Why do you think the Globetrotters were scheduled to be the opening act in your shiny new arena? The Globetrotters are basketball performers, they get paid to win, they also get paid to lose. If I had the bucks I could schedule the Globetrotters to play the local junior high girls' team and the girls would win if that's what I wanted. Do you think that the defending national champs were gonna risk losing their first game in their new arena? Why do you think they played the Globetrotters?

um, don't all teams play exhibition games? correct me if I am wrong...
and IMO, the globetrotters are a lot tougher test than Nike Elite and EA Sports (who we also play for future reference)

I can't get too concerned about what a one-hit -wonder has got to say about me over the internet.
How come Maryland is the only school that anyone has ever heard of that the 'trotters played, nobody else in the ACC played them? In fact only 2 other schools in the NCAA play them at all. They had to interrupt their busy schedule in Mexico to come let the Terps win their first game in their new arena. It was a fix, plain and simple. Don't be ashamed, I'm sure the Globetrotters open a lot of new arenas.

Answer: Because the Elitist Duke Society, known as EDS for short (sounds like some sort of an affliction), would have it no other way considering Maryland took their precious NC with apparently a less heralded squad.

Now that you find this entertaining let's take this opportunity to turn this into a learning experience for you.
"One Hit Wonders" is a term often used to explain a musical act that has one big hit and then fades away back into mediocrity never to be heard from again. I was using this term to describe the current status of the Maryland Terrapins. With a pre-season ranking of 14 in the country, one could only guess that sportswriters and coaches must feel the same way too. After all, ranking the defending National Champs out of the top 10 in pre-season is almost unheard of. Not to mention not being ranked #1 in their own conference since the defending National Champs are starting 4 seniors and the team ranked ahead of them is probably going to start 2 or 3 freshmen. Rodney Dangerfield gets more respect.
Now really to lay the Globetrotters thing to rest, anyone would have to realize that if the Maryland student body thought they won a "real" basketball game by beating the Globetrotters they would have used the opportunity to burn cars, break windows and loot for new boom boxes. That is the true benchmark for a Maryland victory.
If you're tired of beating me up in front of the whole world, I'd like to untie my hands from behind my back, they're getting numb and it's really getting boring. But have at it as long as you like.
