DAM. I hope my guy is wrong. 05-mafia

On a plane to Mchigan right now?
I was actually about to post the very same thing, minus the part about "my guy".
he's probably just scouting talent...cal has said he's not interested in any other job right now...i'll believe him until he proves himself wrong...if that happens...i say NO MERCY!

tigersargh
Maybe he is going on a recruiting trip?
lmfao
For whatever it's worth, I did get a call from a friend who said that he heard Wolo mentioning this on 56. I didn't hear it for myself, so that's why I was hesitant to post it at first.
So Wolo is BOSSMAN's guy?

It all makes sense now.
this better not be happening...this is total BS!

tigersargh
I really just don't care anymore. It is what it is. If Michigan or anybody else offered the guy an extra million or so a year, I couldn't blame him. 99.9-100% of us could not turn down that extra dough no matter what we were making or how great we thought the company we are working for is.
Wolo did say one of his sources said Cal took a plane to talk to Michigan today. For what it is worth.
I assume your "guy" is referring to this flight:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N7255T

only problem with that is this is a common flight pattern for this plane, owned by Raytheon which would have legitimate business in Millington:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N7255T/history
The Detroit media are saying John Beilein and Lon Kruger are the two primary candidates at this point. Possibly Chris Lowery of Southern Illinois. Like the Minneosota situation, there may be things the media know nothing about, though.

The search firms these schools are employing to screen and hire coaches have changed the way many of the coaches are hired. The path Minnesota took to hire Tubby, which apparently began weeks ago, started with a search firm and then went through Tubby's agent Ricky Lefft.

i'd turn it down in a hearbeat if i was coaching the tigers...there is no amount of money in the world that could drag me away from that job...maybe one day we'll get a coach that loves memphis more than anything...dont get me wrong, i love coach cal, but this sh*t is getting old. the university's pockets aren't bottomless, and the guy is a millionaire several times over...no one needs that much money.

tigersargh
Crap! My guy on the flight!

Your thinking is delusional.
This is getting a little crazy. So now Cal wasn't being truthful when he said "I'm not interested in another college coaching job" when asked about Kentucky? And if he wouldn't go to UK, do you honestly think he'll go to an also-ran like Michigan, who hasn't done hardly anything worthwhile since the Fab 5 left?

You don't walk away from what we've got coming. And I truly believe Cal is at a point in his life when he understands that $ isn't everything. Good gracious, he can live off the interest his money generates.

Relax folks, he ain't going anywhere soon.
Well, my guy says Cal is going up there in a consulting roll to help a friend pick a new coach. FWIW.
this is what michigan would send down?

Michigan is not a very good job.
I don't think Cal would fly in that airplane.

i'm delusional because i don't worship money? i'd be ecstatic if i made $50,000 a year...and i probably will never make that much...but i am content with where i am...if i can be content with so little, anyone can definitely be content with multimillions.

Lock this thread. Ban BOSSMAN.

There is a simple solution to everything.
Cal said on Saturday that he may do tonight's radio show by phone.

My thinking is that if he was going to flirt with Michigan, I doubt he would be so conspicuous as to do it during his live call-in show.

Remember how big of a kick he got out of being in Memphis when everyone thought he was in Raleigh, and being in Raleigh when everyone thought he was in Memphis?

I'm sure this trip (if indeed he is headed there tonight) has nothing to do with that job.

Calipari and Memphis Agree On Contract Extension

March 26, 2007

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tiger basketball head coach John Calipari and Athletics Director R.C. Johnson have reached an agreement in principle which will extend the coach's contract through the 2011-12 season.

"I am pleased to announce that I have met with John and the two of us have reached an agreement that will keep him on as the Tigers' basketball coach for years to come," Johnson stated on Monday. "This is my way to say thank you to John for what he has been able to accomplish at the University of Memphis over the past seven years.

"There are not many teams in college basketball teams that have won 66 games over a two-year span or have gone through an entire conference season undefeated," Johnson continued. "John continues to keep the national sports spotlight aimed on the University and the City of Memphis and for all of the right reasons. He and his staff are seeing to it that their student-athletes are graduating and succeeding on the basketball court as well."

Calipari, who has posted a record of 181-63 during his seven seasons at Memphis, is one of the winningest active coaches in the NCAA today. In his 15 years as a collegiate coach, Calipari has amassed an overall record of 374-134.

"The University has shown a continued commitment to the Tiger basketball program in academics and facilities, as well as in numerous other areas," Calipari said. "I have repeatedly stated that as long as that commitment remains strong, I will be the head coach at the University of Memphis.

"We have had a tremendous seven years, especially the incredible ride during the past two seasons, and I look forward to continuing that success in the coming years."

Both Calipari and Johnson are out of town and unavailable for comment.

Yeah, you're right...coaching in the Big 10, getting BCS money, tons of rich donors, quality university on the academic side...challenging conference schedule that'll make for a strong RPI...yeah, it's a lousy job, indeed! ;-) 01-wingedeagle

Don't sell yourself short. You may have value that goes far beyond a mere $50k per year; you just haven't found it yet.

Cal's not going anywhere. Especially not to Michigan. We can outspend them.
LOL...calm down.

Cal's not going anywhere.

did he not fly to NCState last year just to tell them no thanks...

i'm sorry...Crisler Arena is as old as the Mid-South Coliseum (in only slightly better shape), and only holds 13,000.

this is a team coming off an NIT bid, and has 4 players graduating...

this is a rebuilding job guys...they are welcome to talk to Cal as long as they ask RC first.

Go Tigers!!!

Its the guys job. You are a fan and thats why you think the way you do just like me. For a comparison, if I am making $50k a year at my current job, and someone gives me a call and offers me $90k to do the same job knowing I a would be successful no matter where it is I call home, I am more than likely taking the job. Thats why we were extremely lucky that Cal did not bolt for NC State last year, he would have been very successful at that school and he will probably be no matter where he lives. I think it is very unlikely that he will leave, but I am not "tired" of this, its the price you pay for having a major coach in CUSA. It will never end. So just be happy we got a guy that other people would kill to have.

ban this bozo please. nothing more than the boy crying wolf. all it would have taken is 5 minutes of simple research if he really believed Cal was in Michigan to find out that, unless he flew commercial, it was unlikely that Cal was in Ann Arbor.

I put in bold the obvious point of where you are going stray. Obviously Cal does too, but he is also a business man. This isn't his home, and beside his job, he has no allegiance here. He doesn't stay because of a "love" he has always had with Memphis.
