Full Version: Dorsey owes everyone an apology

I'm a big Joey fan, but regardless if you agree with his assertions or not, his classless tirade this weekend against Oden did not reflect well on him, the team, Coach Cal, the University or fans. It just shows a lack of respect for the level of competition at which we've arrived. I was embarrassed every time I heard the national media bring it up today. Not to mention the impact it had on OSU's determination.
BS.
Im embarrased he took his jersey off after he fouled out,who does he think he is Dennis rodman?
honestly i think the way Cal put it is how Dorsey meant for it to come out. We as fans and then the media put a spin on it. Trust me dorsey was not happy with himself today you could tell. But this is also good it gives guys like Antonio, CDR, Joey,Kemp, Allen, Coop and the rest of the team motivation and extra motivation for joey to play like he's never played before next year.

And another thing (besides BS, which really says it all), it was not classless, it was misguided and there is a pretty big differnce. I could see where some would say the jersey thing was "classless" but it didn't bother me one bit.
Synonyms for classless, all defined as follows:

"uncouth in manners or appearance. BOORISH implies rudeness of manner due to insensitiveness to others' feelings and unwillingness to be agreeable <a drunk's boorish behavior>. CHURLISH suggests surliness, unresponsiveness, and ungraciousness <churlish remarks>. LOUTISH implies bodily awkwardness together with stupidity <a loutish oaf>. CLOWNISH suggests ill-bred awkwardness, ignorance or stupidity, ungainliness, and often a propensity for absurd antics <an adolescent's clownish conduct>. "

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck - it's a duck. Insert Joey's picture here.

Joey explained that he took his jersey off because it had blood on it. Granted Joey did not play well today and Oden did but that really had nothing to do with what was said or wasn't said.
Oddly, I didn't think the shirt thing was such a big deal. Obviously inappropriate and/or awkward, but not really classless.
I tend to disagree that Joey's words showed a lack of class. I honestly think he was trying to be funny and to give the media, not Ohio State and Greg Oden, something to ponder. It's not even like Oden was the difference tonight. Hell, he was on the bench for the majority of the first half. Now, if Dorsey would have said the same thing about Conley, then I would agree that his bulletin board material came back to bite him in the ***. I don't think that what he said even affected Oden. Oden played the way he's played all year. He wasn't calling for the ball, talking trash, taunting, etc. If you watch the tip-off, Oden actually made an overture to Dorsey to shake his hand before the game! Dorsey had an off-night at the worst possible time; his comments really had nothing to do with it.
I guess all I'm saying is why not show some respect for a peer that's made it to the same level of competition as yourself ? Why insult the man (Oden) ? Why mock his accomplishments in the national media ? Where's the cause ? What has Oden ever done to deserve such a public berating ? I'm not even talking about what impact it did or didn't have on the game for the most part - I just couldn't figure out why someone would want that sort of reflection on his character that Joey is now having to deal with ? The first article I read on SportsLine called him a "flake" for goodness sake. After the game he had, no one's focusing on any of his good points this year, he just looks like a fool. He brought it on himself. I still can't believe his complete lack of discernment on this.
Joey Dorseys don't come along on the college level often...We will sorely miss his ability and freakish athleticism when he leaves...Sure his comments were taken out of context, no doubt about it, and I wish he hadn't said anything, but to chop the guy off at the knees like this guy is doing here lacks more "discernment" then anything Joey said...STFU please
Joey did not insult or berate Oden.

Sorry quoted the wrong person about the shirt. Its been a long day/night.
He owes no one an apology. He gave us a great year.
IMO, you guys badmouthing Dorsey owe real Tiger fans an apology for pretending to be Tiger fans.

Did Joey make a mistake, probably. Big deal.

To roast him at the stake is ridiculous. Let fans of other programs do that. He doesn't need that from folks he thought were fans of the team he plays for.

Exactly, Joey is a "big kid" in a mans body. He was excited and feeling his oats on a national stage. Joey was having fun and being a clown. Joey got baited by a master..umm.. well I'm not going there. He will learn from the experience I'm sure. We still love you Joey!

First off, I am not a miserable. I've been a Tiger fan for my entire life - literally, and I have the pictures to prove it. But I can't believe I'm the only one who felt like Joey's comments were embarrassing to a great many people. I don't buy the 'big kid' argument. NCAA Division I is made up of thousands of big kids and, once again, I challenge anyone to find another example of the length and quantity of empty bravado served up by Joey this weekend against a true talent and first-round NBA pick in Oden. I've always been taught to show respect in yourself and a quiet sportsmanship for your competitor ... let your game and demeanor represent you well. Why is that so hard to understand ? I'm still a big Joey fan, and love his passion and athleticism - and would be the first one to stand up to defend him if he admitted he let his mouth get way-way-way out of hand, but I am not going to explain it away either.

I've stayed off the boards for a while. After an all too public, all TOO STUPID arguement with another Tiger fan--

But to read what some of you "fans" say about Joey after the game disgusts me. He mouthed off--just like a lot of us do here. The difference is that he did it in a national spotlight. No one sees our stupidity on that scale.

If you are a fan--if you believe in what is going on here with the program--why don't you write Joey a note of support and cheer a little louder the next time he suits up. He is a young man with life lessons to learn. He is a Tiger, and he is OUR TIGER. Its not like he broke the law or abandoned us, the way some of you have abandoned him. if that is your idea of being a fan, you can keep it.

Well said. I've had enough of this crap for a while.
