Two years in a row, the Tigers had a better team and lost.
It may be an incendiary thought, but it does concern me.
You can make excuses about Patrick Byne getting hurt last year, but we still had DeAngelo. Besides, Michael Spurlock wasn't exactly setting the world on fire and their kickers were atrocious.
This year, Ole Miss started or played 11 TRUE freshmen. They only have 3 weapons on offense (Schaeffer, Ellis, & McCluskey), none had played a down for Ole Miss before yesterday. Their DL was horrible and the secondary could be victimized anytime the Tigers wanted to.
However, the Tigers lost despite numerous advantages. Our defensive coaching was horrible, our special teams coaching was terrible, and the offense made several key bad calls (How many WR screens can we throw!!

, and why is Duke Calhoun running the ball on third down when Joe is getting 5yds a pop?

). Once again, Will Hudgens was not ready to play!! If I wish I could blame the players (as JLD has done in the past) or I can blame the coaches who recruit, teach and motivate the players.
I choose the coaches.
It makes me sick to think that Orgeron has kept his promise to never lose a game to Memphis and that he has proven that he can outcoach Tommy West.
I completely disagree with this thread....
but I think its great that as a fan base we are starting to demand the same level of play from our football program as our basketball. Maybe thats a good thing.....
I didn't even read the body of your post. I'm only responding to the stupid question in the subject.............

1 Coach O 's new OC made a very good debut. He definitely outcoached JLD.
2 Their 3 offensive weapons were effective because of a surprisingly good
Oline. Their Oline really wore us down. I don't really call that Coach O outcoaching TW.
3 Their DL and secondary are not horrible. And, we did put 25 pts. up on them.
4 Many of our WR screens were effective for 5+ yds. The size, skill, and speed of the WR unit is our strength.

He's not a better coach than I thought. I told you all that the man would be successful. He is a recruiting machine and he knows football. He did not learn his football at Prairie View or Springfield College. He learned under the very best in the business and has national championship rings to show for it. His recruiting is just going to get better and better. I'm sorry if you don't like the truth, but he is the real deal.

To answer your question, I think a head coach's main job is organization and recruiting. Outside of that, his job is to hire the right people to run his team. I think what you saw yesterday is that Werner was a better OC than we had last year and utilized the weapons we had (which there were more of) better than we did last year.
As an example, look no further than Tommy T at Auburn. In 2003, with the expectations of competing for a national title, they flopped. He goes out and hires Al Borges to replace his OC and immediately goes undefeated in 2004. They went undefeated in 2004 b/c they had Borges as an OC and Chizik as a DC. The talent helped, but the coaching comes mainly from the coordinators, not the head man. The trick, as a head coach, is to have success, and either be able to keep your coordinators, or replace them with other able coordinators when they take promotions with other schools.
Orgeron is a good recruiter and should be a decent defensive coordinator for us. The trick for him is to hire people that can get an offense to work and let them be. For an offense with 6 new starters and a revamped O-line to be able to play a turnover and penalty free game makes me believe Werner has it together. Honestly I expected more mistakes out of our offense, and if they had made any mistakes, like most would expect, then the Tigers definitely would've won that game.

I agree b. Ogre is only going to get better recruits, and he is making the right strides to better their program. That is the reality of the situation.
hey guys mississippi fans deserve to improve. they have
been in the dumps about their football program. i think
both programs should be proud of what was seen.
we lost d. williams, gotti, and mo avery. these were very good
football players. west was able to keep our offense on par.
that is saying alot. to me west is doing a great job when you
see a program able to do that. we were very sound on the
offensie side of the ball. now def is another story. they have
to improve that and fast. west will. you are not supposed to
lose that much talent and then put up 25 points on an sec
team. nowhere in our past wouldve we done that. to me
that is impressive.
uh oh after the way mississippi was smashed this weekend I will have
to wait a few more games to see where we are.
Looked like the same ole, same ole, to me.
"They were horrible" and I am quoting a big rebel fan when I say this.
This fishing buddy of my husband was rabid with disgust for the man.
Makes you feel real good to hear such ranting. lol
It appears, not all the fans down there are proud to have this man run the show.

But, he has the 15th best recruiting class by "We think we can prognosticate how an 18 yo will mature.com".
While I love to look at the fact that he is the only head coach of a BcS team that is in the TRIPLE DIGITS in both offensive and defensive rankings.... He has beaten Memphis two years in a row.
SO.... NO!!!!! He STILL Sucks! Whether he beat Memphis, Kentucky or anyone else this season.
Can he get better? Maybe
Does he suck now? YES!

Nope, not really. Every squirl finds a nut every now and then. Unfortunatly for us, he found two in a row. If you want to say that then it says a bunch for Tommy when he beat Ole Miss with the almighty Eli Manning.
If a blind squirrel finds a nut every time he wants one, I'd begin to wonder if that squirrel was actually blind? Is that still going to be the excuse next year and the year after that?
yes as bad as yall sucked sat i am entitled to an excuse for
losing to ya. dont sugarcoat it yall SUCKED....
It doesn't really say that much at all about Tommy. In fact, I would think if anything it says nothing but positives.
Let's compare....
Ole Miss is the 3 time National Championship program, deep in tradition and a top 30 program of all-time. Plays in the powerful $EC and had a top 15 recruiting class. Owns a 44-10-2 record against Memphis.
Memphis 3 time back-to-back bowl team. 3 of only 5 bowls in the program's history, one of which we didn't even have a winning record AFTER we won the game. We have no history or major tradition, play in a mid-major confrence, which we have never won and have never had a top 50 recruiting class (most of these facts are quotes from Ole Miss fans)
SO....
Which of those two teams SHOULD win EVERY game the two teams play.
Before you say, you can't win EVERY game.
ut... which has only won 2 National Championships and only played in a handful of more bowls, has only lost 1 game in our history!
So, the question is "Is Coach 0 a better coach than we thought?"
The answer, NO! He is NOT good. He MIGHT get better, but right now... NO!
