I logged on this morning to find I have been banned from the regular board. I would like to know why. I have admitted many times that I grew up a Memphis St. fan (they were still Memphis St. when I was a die hard) and that I still root for Memphis once the first game is over. My older sister was a pom-pom girl and many of my best friends went to Memphis. I will admit that I enjoy mixing it up a bit, but I don't call any Memphis fans names (UTK fans are OK to call names right?) and don't shy away from admitting when I'm wrong. Oops, I think I just remembered what did it. I really just thought of it.....

The only thing I can think of is my response to someone saying that Ole Miss was still stuck in the cival war due to a bumper sticker someone saw that had a red and blue W and the end under it. I still wonder how that is tied to Ole Miss, but I admit I get fired up when someone labels the South, Mississippi, or Ole Miss as racist. I mentioned several Memphis happenings and such and probably shouldn't have. I apoligize, and understand if my ban stands. :banned:
your lucky we let you post here.

That definitely should be taken into consideration for taking you off the banned list. Care to tell us what year she was on the squad? ;-)

It was either '88 or '89. She only did it one year. She said that coach was a Hitler. She was in dang good shape that year though.
UnkZ don't take no stuff. ;-)
I guess you will have to go and be with your buds over on the Mississippi board. It will be great, they will agree with everything you have to say, they will comfort you when people make jokes about your coach, yada yada. I think you will be much happier there.
The bumper sticker actually said Ole Miss on it. Guess that should end any question as to how it is tied to Ole Miss.

I don't label your entire school as rascist, but you do fly a flag that offends many people. And your school had a grass roots movement to keep Col neck, so if the pointy hat fits------

I'm offended by rap and hip hop. Both promote murder and violence, IMO.
here we g0--

Rap and hip hop may indeed promote a culture of violence. Turn off the radio. It destroys black communities, as random violence is a low percentage, even in Memphis. Many leaders, even in black communities, denounce rap and hip hop and the message it sends. but,it is a rare thing when rap is damaging to white people.

Was anyone rapping when they klan was lynching african americans under the conf flag? No. Was anyone rapping when the states attempted to leave the Union?

The conf flag offends me for a million reasons, not the least of which is a symbol of hatred and seperation. It offends me as an AMERICAN who is glad this country was not ripped apart by the strife caused by diffrent culutures.

Comparing musical culture to a symbol of revolution and cultural seperation is absurd.

Your school has grass roots "glory holes" in the library. The flag I fly is Old Glory. 50 stars and 13 stripes. Worldwide that flag seems to offend many, maybe more than any other flag. I don't care. I fly it with pride.
Glad you fly the right flag. As for the glory hole thing--whatever dude.

Nationwide, how is your school percieved?

MMMMMMMMMMM?

Honestly? Most people outside the south don't have much of a clue who or what Ole Miss is. If they are sports fans they know that it is where Eli played. When I lived in Texas people were confused as to why I didn't like Jackie Sherril since he was Mississipi State's coach and I went to Ole Miss. It took my a while to realize they didn't understand these were different schools. People in the Drug business know Ole Miss as one of the top Pharmacy schools. Our law school has a good reputation, but probably not enough to be known very far off. Other than that I think we are percieved as a typical public university. The only place I have ever been where people look at me mean because I have on something that says Ole Miss is in my lovely hometown of Memphis.
Maybe you should move.

Right because we know nobody has been killed over this "culture."
I am not going to get into the flag debate again--

lets just agree to disagree.

Could you relay that to your fellow Ole Piss fans. No one knows and no one cares about Ole Piss. 05-stirthepot

I have. I still think of Memphis as home (family and friends still there), but since college I have lived in Austin, Little Rock, and now Nashville. I must say that I have learned to despize UTK since living here. I've never seen this level of obnoxiousness. Is that a word? Anyway, you know what I mean.

Like I said, I'd love to. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of money to be made down there.

The only flags that my school flys are the state of Mississippi flag and the US flag. I haven't seen any others, and I know for a fact no other flag flys at my university.

As for Colonel Reb, some of the students have taken up the cause to try to bring him back, but the school itself is the one that got rid of him in the first place.

Of course, when Colonel Reb was removed from the sidelines, some idiot (from some state up north, no affiliation to Ole Miss or the state of Mississippi) came down to protest the elimination of Colonel Reb. He was attempting to gather support in an argument against the removal of any Confederate symbol at the university. When the students heard about this, many of them gathered at his demonstration. However, not a single student that came to the demonstration was there to support him. Every last one of them was there to counter-protest his protest, which tells me that the group of students supporting the return of Colonel Reb most likely see no racial or Confederate symbolism in the mascot, otherwise there would've been at least a small group of students gathered in support of the idiot.

You can keep trying to paint my university as a racist institution that's stuck in the past, but the reality of the situation is far from the way you describe it.
