I don't know if you guys were aware of it or not, but all summer, the word was that his foot injury wasn't healing right, and was doubtful on when he would start practice, or if he'd play against Memphis State in the opener.
Last year he had 15 tackles with a forced fumble and two tackles for loss... and I was laughed at when I proclaimed that the game would come down to Willis vs. Williams.
I, again, think we'll be able to stop you on offense (please spare me the QB issue), and keep the game very 1 dimensional.... or in last years case, ZERO dimensional.
Can't get here soon enough!!
Hey man.........SHUT UP!!!!

why don't you take your high school smack to the appropriate board. your little act is getting old.
patrick willis can't be any good. i mean, cutcliffe recruited him. and we all know that the reason OM has been an embarassment the last two years is because of Cutcliffe....right???

Cutcliffe also was dumb enough to start Rob Robertson over Willis in 2004 b/c Rob was a senior and PW was a sophomore. That whole seniority thing Cutcliffe went by was one of the main reasons I wasn't upset to see him go.
...to the Droppings board she goes.

Yes, Cut recruited him, and was too stubburn to play him. You had to have the seniority to play under Cut. We had a first round center and a probable first round LB riding the pine under Cut.

Listen, i don't wanna start referring to your name with only the 1st 5 letters but if you continue to bring your Miss-sip-pee threads to the memphistigers.org board without the famed "NTR" i'll be forced to do so. In the meantime, it's good that you'll have a full force for your first game of the season......
.... as if it'll do you any good. lmfao

would have been funnier if it was true. but why should anyone expect someone from Mississippi to know the difference between truth and fiction.
Last year's game.
First Downs: MEM = 16 MISS = 16
Rushing Yards: MEM = 114 MISS = 55
Passing Yards: MEM = 149 MISS = 207
Total Yards: MEM = 263 MISS = 262

Looks like we should've tied last year.
I think HokieRebel is obessessed with the Tigers, he sure spends alot of time over here.
bmglennreb Wrote:Looks like we should've tied last year.
no, OM deserved to win because they made the plays when they had to.
the Tigers had their shot, but didn't come through.
but to say that OM shut down Memphis and imply the Reb offense was much better is just stupid, though not surprising.
That game was flat ugly last year. I don't think either team felt particular optimistic walking off the field. Hopefully this year the game looks like two good teams are playing in it.
I hope and pray that the Mississippi coaching staff has the same attitude as the fans.
And spare you the QB situation... ok, how 'bout our starting WR of 6'4, 6'4 and 6'3 against your secondary of 5'10, 5'11, 5'11 and 6'. Add to it the redzone threat of Singleton who is 6'8 and I am pretty sure we win EVERY jump ball. I look for us to have a TON of passing yards in this game.
Remember our first drive against you the last time we were in Oxford? You will see many like it again this year.

Yeah, it is uncommon to have WRs taller than DBs. Never ever happens in the NFL. I seriously hope your starting corners are at least 6'4".

Seriously, just about every team has WRs that are taller than DBs. Basically if you are tall, you play WR in college. If you are short, you are a DB.
In the '97 Motor City Bowl, we had a 5'-6" CB matched up head to head against Randy Moss who is around 6'-4". Basically he was operating at a 10" differential. Early in the game he got beat for a long TD pass. Outside of that, Moss only had 3 other catches the entire game. Point being, height is fairly over-rated when it comes to DBs on WRs.
Ok, since you bought it up...
Our DBs... 6', 5'11, 5'11, 6'3, 6'3. None of the DBs we just recruited were under 6'.
In a situation like that, it comes down to QB play and his ability to put the ball where it needs to be. I would say a QB that passed for 7,700 in two seasons has that ability.
Of all the matchups in this game, I like our WR against your DBs the most.

The Pro Bowl starters were 5'10", 5'10", 5'11", and 6'0". I guess your guys are better since they are taller. Don't you wish you could coach in the Pro Bowl? You would have a good QB and could just throw a jump ball every pass.

Our DBs actually are considered the strength of our defense this year, outside of Willis obviously. It's the most experienced area on our D, so I wouldn't discount our guys based on height. Like I said before, height plays very little factor in a WR-DB match up except on deep balls and fade routes. Even then, it takes a perfectly thrown ball for the receiver to be able to use those extra inches to his advantage.
If you're looking for an area where you may have an advantage offensively, I'd look at the line play. Our DL, while talented, is very young and inexperienced. That's the area that I would say the Tigers have the biggest chance of having a true advantage in on the offensive side of the ball.

I agree, West will likely want to attack our front 4 early to see how they do. I think the running game could open up the passing game, but I don't think the height advantage is worth much.
Let's see deep passes and fade routes, two of our favorite passes in 2003. The other area that our WR will come in handy is in the red zone.
ut is supposed to have the best DBs in the $EC, but they finished 10th against the pass.
I don't care how good your DBs are supposed to be, I STILL like our WR against your DB matchup. And yea, I like our OL against your DL too.
On defense, I like ALL our matchups. Mostly because of the experience factor.

Well, we'll find out fairly soon. I think you are fairly naive, but I've been wrong so many times I don't even trust myself.
I never claimed to be a football expert (Honestly, I think I am, but I try not to claim it). On paper, I like our size and speed at WR to be an advantage over your smaller DBs. I like the experience at OL over your DL, because you have to have a completely new line coming in. Your LBs are a big advantage, BUT I like us spreading the field with 4 WRs so that might lessen their impact.
On defense, I like our DL against your OL because of experience and then I saw your OL just get whipped too many times last year. We have our two best DL back this year and got two very good DL from some school to our south. Our LBs should be at least decent, getting back McCrary will be a boost, and then we are going against a backfield that is totally new. Your backfield should be good, but I don't look for them to come out of the gate as good as they will be later. Our DBs against your WR. Let's see, we return 5 starters and 4 that either started a couple of games or saw action against WRs that have 1 pass catch combined. Love it ON PAPER! Special teams, we have the advantage at punter, everything else is a wash.
With that said, Ole Miss could come out of the gate and hand it to us. I would be very disappointed, but it is not out of the question. My belief is that we drive down the field early using the pass and then set up the run by spreading your defense out. I like Memphis in a pretty high scoring game, and I like them to win pretty handily. I won't bet that, but that is the way I see it. I won't be shocked if it is a close, low scoring game because this is closer to reality and not what I see with my heart. I will know more closer to gametime.

It was pretty zero dimentional last year,
for both teams. Come on man, the score was 10-6, nobody was marching the ball down the field. And spare me the, "Our kicker sucks and couldn't hit a 10 yard field goal" issue.

Hey, hookie, check this out...
Wow! Memphis had more Basketball fans than us and about half as many football fans. Yep you got us there I guess we should all just curl up and cry. lmfao Basketball is a boring sport that not that many people really care about (except schools that really suck in everything else)!
Your football atmosphere must really be awesome with almost a third of the stadium packed for every game! lmfao lmfao lmfao
