He is a role model for PERFECTION!!
The world would be a much better place if everyone held themselves to the same standards as Tiger Woods does.
Then tell your kids that sport players aren't role models. It's his profession. How many on this board say it everyday but aren't held to some other standard b/c they aren't famous?

Because he is named after our mascot (Tiger)? ;-)

I actually saw a special on him and it was an entire program about his foundation and how it helps to edcuate kids. He said that he really wants to give them a chance to do better.
I think people take his competitive nature as arrogant. I used to think the same thing until I saw the program and him interacting with the kids.
One kid got something wrong and he said "GD - get it right!" - Just kidding!

you're right. he practices great self control by screaming GD. we all need to learn and worship tiger's self discipline.

It should be up to the networks to keep it off the air.
I thought is was pretty moving when he broke down after winning.

It doesn't matter....he said GD 3 times in an amazingly pressured filled situation. That's all that matters.
Do any of you pay him jack crap for what he does? Does he say that people should follow his example?
No
Then try shutting the F^%* up and being a better parent if you don't think he's a good role model. It's not his job to raise anybody's kids, and it's not like any kid over the age of 10 hasn't said GD once.
Quote:bone, why don't you think I like tiger again?

I don't have a problem with anyone cussing. people cuss. I cuss. I also know when and when not to cuss. when I'm at work and I make a minor mistake, I don't scream GD..GD..GD
Tiger hits a ball 3 feet outside the fairway and screams GD! I know he's the best. I know that he holds himself to the highest standards. I wonder if him screaming that made him play better???
I was simply stating that I lost some respect for him this weekend.

Duh, he thinks that you are a racist. Personally, I don't think that is what you were implying, but why in the hell did you ask him to repeat it?
Like Tiger or not, his round today was unbelievable. Not what he shot, but how he did it. Players falling by the wayside on the front, Tiger assessed his position after 8 pars and no bogies. DiMarco was the only one on his back so Tiger amped up and blew him away. He may have hit one bad shot today. I don't think he hit a second. I am the first to admit I am not Tiger's biggest fan. However, his round today has all of my respect and more. He was awesome.

You'd be surprised to hear that most people outside of the south don't think of that as an offensive term. Not picking a side (although it never comes out of my mouth), just saying that the perception of "GD" depends very much on where you grew up.
crying about people taking pictures of him with their camera phones.....
spoiled little brat
I believe that he his the best golfer who has ever lived. I have no doubt. I just think that he acts like a baby every time he makes a poor shot.
could care less if he murmered something under his breath, but screaming it, what a poor sport
I will clear something up though, I should not have stated role model. everyone is right to say parents should be the role model. I guess I should have said poor sport.
memphisrebel Wrote:crying about people taking pictures of him with their camera phones.....

Even people that don't golf know that the worst thing you can do is make a sudden noise when someone is in their backswing. What an idiot.
Y'all think Archie ever said GD after overthrowing a reciever?

Saying ******* is hardly a bad term. Would you rather him say tnuc, fock or kocksucker?
I'm sure Coach Oh, No!!!!!! has never said the GD word on the sidelines while watching his team end up 3-8 last season.

Some might find the word "deusch" offensive.
Others might find it offensive to make up a story about being mugged while leaving a football game, in broad daylight with hundreds of people around, heading for a parking lot.
Some might just find you offensive.
Can't please everyone, I guess.
Moving this a little political, y'all think it is so fine for Tiger Woods to say GD in a golf tourny, but President Bush says the "S" word and it is a front page no no. What is the difference?

I may be wrong but I think "deusch" means Dutch. (What would be offensive about that?)
Rebel, are you trying to say
douche, as in the feminine hygiene product?
I guess I'm no longer shocked at the depths to which the posting population here has sunk.
Tiger can say whatever he wants, but his lack of self-control does reflect poorly on him.
Sports figures aren't role models. That's ridiculous.

Frankly, I would like to think that the POTUS could drop an s-bomb or two when having a candid conversation with Blair. People blew that way, way, way out of proportion...and for the record, I'm not prone to stick up for Bush.
Only a Mississippi fan would look for a pro ath to be a role model anyway.

Tiger is a bad role model? I know I certainly wouldn't want any children I may have to find something they love to do and WANT and EXPECT to do it perfectly everytime!!! If they fail they should just shrug it off and say , Oh well". I would rather my kid be pissed that he missed the putt (again worht 1.5 million dollars) then use that anger to do even better then next time, which is what Tiger does.
I also wouldn't want them to get an education at at top notch school and use their talents to give back to the community.
Yeah, terrible role model.

Big surprise, another cracker trying to downplay the accomplishments of a man of color.
BTW, why would he have said GD considering almost every one of his shots was perfect? I watched almost all of the coverage saturday and sunday and didn't hear any of that. You're late for your KKKLan meeting aren't you?

I don't think it's that big a deal that Bush said the s word, but he sholdn't have said it hot mic or not. I don't think anyone would argue with that. That being said, Tiger Woods is not the leader fo the free world. You're comparing apples and oranges here.

Actually, it is an offensive word to many, regardless of where you live. Obviously the people most offended are the ones who are religious. Using the Lord's name in vain is not acceptable in any state, country, etc. It does not matter where you live. Most of our society seems to have lost faith in God and therefore will not find the term offensive and will also defend its use. Just because we all have said it does not make it right, unless you are a non-believer and do not care either way.
And yes, I have used the word many, many times, as I am sure most of us have.
In regards to Tiger, I am happy for him. His emotions were running high and his anger was showing through. Cut him some slack and do not judge him as it is not our place.
My religious rant for the day.
i think Tiger should tone down the profanity.
i also think he is the best golfer of all time and probably the most mentally tough athlete i have ever seen.
however, he is the only golfer i have ever heard drop F-bombs and GD's pretty consistently on the golf course. as disciplined as he is, it shouldn't be too much trouble to curse under his breath when he misses the fairway by 2 feet.

rarely do i hear the F bomb and GD from anyone but Tiger.
as for Cal, his language has improved a lot since attendance has increased! a couple of years ago i could hear him yell GD from the Club Level across from the visitors bench!!
I think what MemphisReb was trying to say was the same thing that Chris Rock said pubicly a few years ago:
"You know this world is F'ed up when the best golfer in the world is black (Tiger) and the best rapper in the world is white (Eminem)."
Classic Rock
Well said, Jedi...I agree. I hardly ever use profanity...I find it very offensive, but a lot of people do, men especially.
While Tiger is the best golfer since Jack and has done some great things through his foundation, I don't consider him a role model.
What amazed me was after breaking down emotionally, he was able to talk about his Dad in the tv interview and in his acceptance speech, and could keep his composure. Anyone who has lost a parent could identify with him.
Well done, Tiger.
Everyone is missing the real issue here. Tiger is not a role model. If I lost 1.3 mil for an erratic shot blamed on a camera phone I would empty my bag into the gallery at high velocity.
That said, the real issue is why in the heck they all get sensitive about little beeps and clicks out on the course, yet they could play around the eighteenth green with a helicopter hovering overhead without blinking?

I would disagree. Many of the people I know from outside of the south will drop that one like it's nothing at all. It's not that they've lost religion or don't have it, it has just become a common part of the vernacular in many parts of the country. Most people don't really mean it to be an offense to God, just as an expression of frustration equivalent to when I say Shiite when I'm frustrated.
...and you'd be hard-pressed to hear it come from my lips. I just simply don't use it, at least not with the "God" in front of it.
There's always going to be people that find it offensive, just not nearly as many outisde the South, which is why you hear it more from non-Southerners.

I was thinking the same thing with the helicopter. Tiger has had problems in the past with pro photographers snapping shots during his backswing and his caddy has borderline assaulted one guy for it. Moral of the story don't be a dick and snap until tiger has hit the ball. Also, they don't have marshalls at the British Open like in the states so they had more trouble controling those spectators snapping shots of him.

Ya think it's got anything to do with the fact that Tiger is the only golfer on tour that has a camera and mike in his face on EVERY shot. Other players only get face time when they hit a good shot. Tiger has EVERY shot televised. Profanity is part of golf....... as is gambling. You learn it at an early age.
How many times did "Monty" back off the ball due to a distraction (phone, camera) in the US Open? I noticed quite a few times.
Azinger made an interesting point yesterday that I have never heard. You only have about 1.5 minutes of actually swing time during a 4 to 5 hour round. The rest is waiting, walking, discussing, prepping, etc. So total concentration on your swing is very important.
Especially when you are playing for over $1M. More than some will make in a lifetime.

He seems to try to be a good role model.
Probably if you asked him, he would rather he didn't say the phrase also.
Most people would like to keep their temper in check at all times, if they could. We are human and as such, we mess up.
Thats the bottom line to me.
