This was a lot of fun! We got to talk with lots of players and learned a lot about our history.

Keith Benton?
Steve Matthews?
Russel Copeland?
The last 2, maybe not, but Benton set all kinds of QB records.
Benton was good but he is way down the list on all-time passers at U of M.
Matthews was the last cut.
Good list but Keith Butler and Keith Simpson before a lot of those guys......
I might be mistaken but I thought Mike Stark was an All American when he played OL at Memphis. He then went on to play with the Cardinals for a few seasons. If he was indeed an All American, then how come he was excluded?

IMHO,
You ditched the 3 Keiths!
Barto was a good LB. Keith Butler was a GREAT LB.
Crawford was a good WR. Keith Wright was a GREAT WR.
K Simpson was an AWESOME DB!
Also, Bob Rush and T Middleton should be included.
How could you not have the 3 Kieths. They were awesome. Did Charlie Babb (sp?) play for the tigers? DB for the Miami Dolphins. I thought he did.
You guys are right there are lots of others that deserve mention!
I got the clean art this morning from Canada.
This should be the final version I will send to the coaches.

If the years you posted are supposed to be the last year that player was at Memphis, you might want to recheck the list. For instance, Wimprine last played in 2004 and Dodson played in 1999.
Lots of debate possible, but overall it's not a bad list. IMO, I would have swapped the following:
Jerome Woods for Keith Butler
Damien Dodson for Keith Wright
Joey Allison for Keith Simpson
But again, still a worthy listing. Good job.
The year is subject to an event that made them special - Dodson as a freshman was a big step for our program.
Derby you are right - there are many changes that could be made.
The discussion is what we are looking for.
Definitely should have been Gostkowski over Allison...
Quote:Ranks thirteenth in NCAA Division 1-A history with 369 points and fourteenth with 70 field goals made...His 369 points scored set a school career record, topping the old mark of 263 points by Joe Allison (1990-93)...Holds the top three spots on the Tigers' single-season record list for points scored by a kicker, totaling 101 points in 2003, 108 in 2004 and 101 again in 2005...His 70 field goals made shattered the previous school all-time record of 51 by Allison while his 159 extra points made broke Allison's old mark of 110...His 22 field goals in 2005 was one shy of the Memphis single-season record of 23 by Allison in 1992...His 44 successful extra points in 2003 topped the old school single-season record of 42 by John Cobb (1949), and Gostkowski broke his own record with 48 extra points made in 2004.
Allison won the Groza award - like winning the Hiesman.
How do you exchange them?

Due to the fact that Gostkowski is the leading scorer in Memphis and CUSA history.
Bill was considered one of the most loved players, not only because of what happened to him, but how he reacted to it. This shirt is for the greatest players, however, which lends itself to recognition of on field accomplishment. Also, they are correct about Keith Butler and Keith Simpson. They were high achievers at MSU and in the Pros. They also were the two best defensive players in one of the better program periods in our history.
Howard Johnson is right.
Rumph.

At least we didn't get a D. Chew in this one lmfao
allison piled up field goals because rips anemic offense never COULD punch the ball in the red zone.
Gotti was deadly from the 35 and deeper.
no doubt Gostowski is the greatest Tiger kicker.

This is an easy one
Gotti will be the best kicker in the NFL in 3 years.
Allison had to go before Gotti.
The award gives it to Allison.
One other thing Joey played for Stobart not Rip -
Joey Allison
1992
Lou Groza Award winner
1. AP All-American - first team
2. UPI All-American - first team
3. Football Writers All-American - first team
4. Sporting News All-American - first team

You left out the number of bowl games Allison kicked in.
Gotti is, and will be remembered as, the better kicker.
Keith Butler and Keith Simpson not being on the list means that you do not have The Greatest Football players to ever wear the blue and gray as your title implies but just a really good list of some of the top players.
That is in the eye of the beholder.
I think #20 and #18 had a little more to do with those bowl games.
I love what Gotti did here and I think he will be a great pro because of his strong leg!
The number 4 jersey is missing!!!

I didn't get the right donation to put him on there.
BOSSMAN Wrote:How quickly we forget - I didn't think this was even close.
Gostowksi - 369 career points
Joe Allison - 263 career points
You're right; it's nowhere near close. Gotti only racked up 106 more career points.
It is not even close!
We scored lots more and played more games for Gotti.
Joey in a landslide.
Gotti did not make 1 All-American first team.
Joey made 8 and won the Lou Groza - get real!

I agree with you on this one.
