For all of you who , like me, would love to see this years team go to Indy in April and possibly win it all, there's a catch to our possible success.

I hope you all know if we win a championship or even just make the final four,Calipari is GONE!

I have no doubt that Calipari is only looking for money and glory for himself,NOT Memphis. The guy has been shopping for other jobs since his first year here.

Don't get me wrong,I love this years team and want us to do well, but the better we do the more Calipari's stock goes up,and the better chance he has to get another job.Maybe something a little more "glamorous" than Memphis.

Book on it,then we will start all over from square one
STFU.
yeah - right.
Miserable...

There are just some people that you can tell have been waiting to start this crap. It took nearly 100 posts, but there it is.
Maybe, Maybe not. Who knows, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the man has been "shopping" for jobs since he has been here. Maybe I am wrong, but don't really remember anything that sticks out. You think he might just be happy with his $millions$ he makes here every year. Is there really that much better of a situation out there anywhere?
Hmm, seems to me I remember hearing "Cal is gone if he gets the Tigers in the NCAAs" or " Cal is gone because the conference sucks."
What's next, "Cal is leaving because the CA delivered a paper in his next door neighbor's yard."

I thought this was a message where ideas could be discussed. Not a place where if you deviate from the kiss Cals *** position you would get summarily dismissed.
Guess not.

I am referring to a pattern of behavior exhibited by Cal since he first arrived here. His first year he entered into discussions with South Carolina about their coaching job,so we raised his salary. He was rumored as a possible Pitt coach and didn't deny that he will look at all options,so we extended his contract.

If he isn't intent on moving then he a master at bluffing.

My advice to you is to not be scared to discuss realistic possibilities.Trust me,Cal won't leave and you won't hurt tiger basketball to speak frankly .

Cal's got it made here and he knows that, he isn't going anywhere. Especially if he can get on a roll with teams that have the ability to go to the final four over the next few years.
i love it when people say something that is an opinion, then when someone disagrees with that opinion, gets his feathers ruffled.

sure, cal won't die as the coach of the university of memphis, but why in the world anyone would want to talk about this right now while we are 5th in the country and are 14-2 is beyond me.

unless said person wanted to stir up trouble and spew negativity.

that's my opinion. feel free to disagree.

I STRONGLY disagree... and here's why.

When Calipari took UMass to the Final Four, he had completed a very important step on his "checklist" for success. In fact, he's discussed this topic before.

His personal goals, back in the early 90's went something like this -

1. Build a college basketball program from the ground up
2. Make the postseason ( NIT )
3. Make the NCAA tournament
4. Earn a # 1 ranking in the polls
5. Make the Final Four
6. Win a national championship
7. Land an NBA coaching position
8. Make the NBA playoffs
9. Win an NBA playoff series
10. Win the world championship

Once he led UMass to the Final Four, he was offered the head coaching job with the New Jersey Nets. So in essence, he was able to bypass his next big goal of winning a national championship, and jump directly into the pros.

Unfortunately for Calipari, he didn't realize that the prima donnas on his roster had to be treated with kid gloves, and wouldn't be receptive to the screaming and stomping tactics that worked for him in college. He did manage to squeeze them into the NBA playoffs and achieve another one of his goals, but the damage had already been done. His players wanted him gone.

Now that he's back in college, you can be assured that his priorities have changed quite a bit. I would be highly surprised to see him back in the pros anytime soon. At least, not until his son is in college. The stress of that lifestyle is ridiculous, and you can be without a job at a moment's notice.

If Cal gets us to the Final Four, then I fully expect the big money donors to reward him handsomely with a huge bonus and a better contract, which in turn will keep him here for many years to come. After all, he still has to check # 6 off that list... and might want to do it a few times.

No way he abandons what he has built here, as well as miss out on a chance to coach what may be the preseason #1 team in the nation. If we get DWash and Shawne back, with Wille and Niles and the kid from Fresno coming, you can count on it. We will be the preseason favorite to win the title.
Even without Shawne, we'll be loaded and all those freshmen will be sophmores.

Beyond that, Memphis has rebuilt a solid top 10 program that has a steady supply of top recruits headed its way year in and year out.

Cal's Final Four bonus in his contract is absurd compared to other coaches - something like 10 times more than the norm.......Cal's contract is also bonus-laden for graduation rates, conferences championships, coach of the year awards and things of that nature.....from what I can remember.........

I can't believe I'm arguing on a message board.I have to say that I'm ashamed of myself that I've become as much of a dork as the people I'm trying to debate.Thank you for your pro-Cal vitriol against my post. This is like an alcoholic bottoming out and having a moment of clarity as to what a wreck he has become.Except,my moment of clarity is that I've become an out of shape, middle aged geek who posts on internet boards.

I truly thank you for waking me up.

ooh, that cut to the core.

you really are a great guy.

you're probably the idiot that sits behind me that yells at our players and blames cal for the players missing shots.

and yes, if that's you, you are fat and out of shape.
This is a silly thread. our program is bigger than John Calipari.[Image: dummy.jpg]

You think I'm kidding.I am very serious and I do thank you.I have had a spiritual experience here and I'm enjoying it.And I will log off now because people like you are not very smart. And there's one little way to tell and it's called bad English. So I won't waste my time anymore.
Thanks again. No need to respond as I won't read it.

P.S. I am smarter than you tigerjeb.

He has built a great foundation here and I think he will stick around and ride it out for a while. He would be crazy IMO if he left with what he has and what he has coming in. I can't see it. If money is an issue, I am sure we will come up with it.

I thought he said he was logging out. Sure looks like he is still logged in.

Maybe he came back to grab his ball before he went home.

This post doesn't even deserve a response, so with that being said----you're an idiot.
TwoTimeTiger Wrote:There seem to be an abundance of really bad threads lately and this is one of the worst.

The problem is we really don't have anything to complain about right in terms of our two main sports, so people start some crap because they just feel the need to whine about something.
some people have to have things to complain about. They just cannot be happy. If Cal leaves (and neither will TW) there are other coaches that would cawl here for the chance to be HEAD COACH of THE MEMPHIS TIGERS. I said that b4 Cal and it is still true.

This what pisses me off the most about message boards. I write some stupid sh!t on here, but mine is always just a bad attempt at humor. This guy does just enough to piss everybody off but not get banned. Y'all should invite him over for a cookout and beat his ***. Take pictures and use it in your signature.
His days are once again numbered.
Besides, how would you like to have to wake up everyday and be him, whatever he calls himself? lmfao
