catswin, your whole point of bringing this up is because you want to cause a stir on the board and you know it. You honestly couldn't care less yourself.

I will reply afterall. Maybe you should reconsider how you pose your question. The attitude suggested by your post is inflammatory. Why should this board be obligated to be a place for commemorating great Americans? If you would like to see some discussion on the topic, let me suggest you start a thread in a positive way. Maybe others are ignoring you for a reason. I'll give you another try though.

JER stalked MLK for several months covering several cities and states. This could have occurred in any one of them, but fate dictated it happen here. Memphis has been unjustly blamed for his death, and we honor his birthday and death in Memphis. This is a total of two, count 'em, two holidays for MLK in Memphis honoring his life and death.
By the way, thanks for playing the "race card". Whenever Cincy (the city) has stellar race relations, you may throw stones at others.
Have a good day and go back to your board where you belong!

Catswin apparently doesn’t know that Memphis is the home of the National Civil Rights Museum. That Memphis maintains, for posterity, the Lorraine Motel. That in downtown Memphis there exists an abstract sculptor called “Mountain Top

That was the most classless post ever. To have played the race card, our UC version of a hemmoroid has now truly shown himself to be incapable of redeeming social value. As our law enforcement voice of truth, TigerTracker is correct...it could have happened somewhere else but fate intervened for it to occur here in Memphis. Just as in the death of JFK in Dallas, time lessens some angst and memories, so seeing no posts about it on a sports message board shouldn't make any ripple in the waters of life. However, when you consider the source, why should we expect anything less from a poster who feels the need to denigrate others to make himself feel superior.

You are a guest on our board to discuss sports. While on some occssions other issues are discussed here it is still a sports board. We control the content, and do not appreciate your small-minded attempts to cause problems, especially when you are so wrong and uninformed.

And Memphis is home of the National Civil Rights Museum which encompasses the Loraine Motel where King was shot. They had plenty of events yesterday.
Oh, and if you're from Cincinnati, why don't you worry about quelling your own race riots. We haven't had any of those for 30 years while y'all seem to have them regularly.

Catswin Wrote:Do you folks cope with the death of a great man, gunned down in your city, by ignoring it?And one last parting remark since this post is so way out of line ------- IF – just IF you’re really that concerned and want to lobby for an official proclamation in addition to today’s holiday and the above mentioned memorials (and I doubt ANY authentic concern on your part) the best place to voice that deep and heart felt concern isn’t on a Tiger Board. Nor is it directly to the administration at the University of Memphis. Why not take your attempted abuse (or use) of the King murder directly to the Memphis City officials. Unless, of course you also think history shows the U of M or Tiger fans have inordinate pull with the City Council and the County Commission.

Holiday implies a celebration.
A day free from work that one may spend at leisure, especially a day on which custom or the law dictates a halting of general business activity to commemorate or celebrate a particular event.
However, you may just be stating that you have a day of memorial for Dr. King.
Either way, it was a tragedy.

The tone of his post appeared derogatory in nature toward Tiger fans and Memphians.
Now, whether or not a holiday is assumed to be celebratory in nature, the City of Memphis still observes April 4 as well as January 15 in observance of King.
And yes, it was a tragedy.

Commemorate: 1. To honor the memory of with a ceremony. 2. To serve as memorial to.
So, the holiday is a day free from work that one may spend to commemorate the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All right all right, I asked the question in a poor way, and yes it could be construed as inflamatory. I apologze. I was serious however. I had read nothing on the board about the man or the day so I thought I would ask. I am sure if there was a holiday for the fourth string runningback on next years team there would have been a million posts.

Take heart fellow Memphians,
I know plenty about Cincy, I spent lots of time at NKU and I had lots of teammates from Cincy in that my coach now at CBU is from there.
They are just as racist there as in the south. The race card gets played there too. Religion (Catholic) more than anything.
So just let people like that go through life confused! :bang:
Keep spreading the Love of Christ! :D
