ETSU will get swept by KSU before we are off probation. They are not the top eschelon team they think they are. It's not a wonder why we're having such success that unfortunately is not being shared by UNF. We have the program, the talent pool and the previous success to run circles around ETSU in a few years. To think this conference is going to be ran by ETSU is absolutely absurd. We ran over D-II schools with strong programs and small budgets.
We didn't feel like we belonged in D-II when we won 3 national championships in 1 year. Kennesaw's strength is ETSU's weaknesses. They have no proximity to a large economic hub, their team has struggled against us twice and we're mid-pack of the conference, and they have failed in bringing this conference to a bigger level. They can't beat the sub-100's let alone even hang with them even with the prolonged D-I status.
Just wait until this is Kennesaw's conference ETSU, we'll smile graciously as we pass you on the ladder of success.
Ok but first win games in the NCAA tournament, and get ranked in the top 10 in the nation. If you can do that ill kiss your rear as you pass us on the ladder of success.
PS..why all the hatred? Oh well, see you in the ASUN tourney...OH WAIT. Nevermind.
Nick M- What's all the Hate with ETSU. I didn't care for KSU. But I think both programs have bought alot to the A-Sun in terms of excitment and a new rivarly. Is the reason your not showing us love is that your season is over after this week or is it that KSU still has two years of probation. and can't have a chance to good dancing or to the NIT.
I love the new rivalry and it sure beats the old UNF/KSU one in the peach belt but I'm tired of the crap the ETSU fans put out there like the rest of the schools in the conference are inferior. They're no better than we are. Sure, hate on us that we're improving our school and battling through a horrible 4 year probationary status, but it's not because we're a lesser school.
The two games you played us this year in basketball we dropped the ball and to say otherwise is stupid. A few seasons from now, the experience is going to catch up and you guys will either be forced to step up and compete or dwindle in the ranks. KSU will lead this conference where it needs to go, not ETSU.
I don't hate ETSU, it's just a rivalry and I want to win against your school moreso than any other school right now. That's what a rivalry is.
I agree with nick... I do not think the a-sun has a team that I would like KSU to beat more... I cannot wait for next season!!! I am looking forward to seeing how we will replace Ingle at point.... I think we need some more composure at the position.
Guess you will need to wait til next year to see, SINCE WE BEAT YOU GUYS TWICE! NUFF SAID! Games were close this year, but who walked aways with the W! I cant wait till next year because all our new young guys are going to be even more improved NICKY! Although I enjoy watching ETSU vs. KSU. I am also very impressed with Wooten's leaping ability. Maybe REED will toss Wooten's shot attempts next year!
OK..not every ETSU fan thinks we are way better and way beyond the rest of the league. Just like I doubt every single KSU fan believes KSU will dominate this league soon.
I dont like KSU...I'm glad we have started a new rivalry. Its nice to able to look forward to playing a certain opponent again. We havent had that lately since we joined the ASUN.
One other thing...
They have no proximity to a large economic hub
What good does that do KSU. You aveage about 800 fans a game. Pitiful.
I guess that makes it easier for all the KSU grads to go to the Georgia and Georgia Tech games.
When our Athletic Staff becomes competent, it'll make a world of difference. Perhaps being the only show in town is good, but no room for growth and expansion.
I know a lot has to do with the future but near future is the key.
Congrats on your season ETSU. I hope you go to final four which would help all of our teams. I don't think you're good enough but hey, sometimes the planets align.

Hold on there buddy, ETSU first has to win the ASUN Tourney. They have won a lot of close games this year, and if the ball bounces the other way in the tourney, then they will be heading to the NIT. I know they beat GW by a total of 5 points combined for both games and the ETSU Lipscomb games have been tough as well as the KSU ETSU Games. Belmont and ETSU went to OT in both games with each pulling wins on the road.
I still think Belmont is going to win the tourney.
You beat d2 schools? GREAT! We've played d2's as exhibitions and beat their brains in for years! You guys have to be kidding me, let's go with a point system.
Fan base: ETSU yep, Kennesaw: still trying to get recognition over Valdosta and UWG.
Student support: ETSU: yep, as evidenced in how many traveled through bad weather to kennesaw.... Kennesaw: nope, the empty block of seats behind the KSU bench proves that everytime you're in Johnson City.
Conference titles? We just ordered another banner. You've yet to play in the postseason.
Now I'll be the first one to say we're not where we once were, but I can promise you that Kennesaw isn't going to sweep us anytime soon, not unless Dequan Twilley, Courtney Pigram, Mike Smith, Micah Williams and Blake Mishler ALL TRANSFER. Sure you might get a win here and there, but that's it.
Oh, and how do you replace Golden? Tell another one of the Ingle's to have another kid, that's about the only thing that family is any good at.
We won't sweep you anytime soon? We almost beat you with our predominately freshman team! Golden will be replaced with a point who can actually shoot AND pass no problem. Conference Titles? we are so new to d1 we aren't even eligble yet we could still give any team a run for their money.
As far as student support, I cant argue that we obviously suck at marketing for the games 3/4th the student population don't even know when we have them. Thats OK though, once we get that fixed all we need is 1/10 of the student body to show up and we'll be close to filling the place ;-)
Well we ALMOST beat Tennessee and ALMOST beat Auburn. Last time I checked, that still counted as a loss. We are ALMOST undefeated in the league too...

we've passed west ga and valdosta..were looking at passing g-state soon. Our school is praised all the time from the AJC to Oprah and i'm confident we'll be competing with the likes of tech and uga in 10 years.
Golden will be replaced easily. in fact i've noticed when we had stegal, wooten, morgan, nickerson, and whipple in which could be our starting lineup next year..we were at our best. Zach berry our freshman pg is going to fine next year, the flashy passes wont be there, but consistant shooting and less turnovers will be. also very talented transfers reggie king an Ryan Daughtery will be eligible..wouldnt surprise me to see King starting next year in place of either Berry or Morgan.
The Ingle's don't need to have another kid, in fact they should be sterilized in order to prevent them from procreating entirely. That whole damn family is obnoxious. Good luck in a few years when you're eligible for postseason play.
bleh, i can't wait till we're eligible and KSU has something to play for... that's a scary thought KSU is just playing for kicks and still giving you guys a run.
"Just playing for kicks"... is that how you justify not being able to pull out a W? Its nice to know playing to win isn't motivation enough for KSU. I've got a scary thought for you, an Ingle family reunion. Oh, and the only thing you're going to sweep is that airplane hanger we call the Dome, that floor gets awfully dirty with all those KSU fans that travel with their team.
all those fans that travel with you're team will be dead in 4 years
Yeah.. tell that to the Kappa Sigs that went to the UNF game... and even if they were dead at least those stiffs would have plenty of room when they visited KSU, hell there would probably be more dead ETSU fans there than KSU students.
Ha mister... it's been fun. Enjoy your high horse cause it's not going to last. I just hope we're not as rediculous about shoving it in your face saying "I told you so" when it does happen.
"rediculous"... really?...
I don't hate ETSU, it's just a rivalry and I want to win against your school moreso than any other school right now. That's what a rivalry is.
Fine by me. Nice to see somebody with passion about their team !
Good luck.
Oh, you guys still suck ! ;-)
Future tips delusional kennesaw fan: HAVE A WINNING SEASON BEFORE YOU START TALKING SMACK TO THE CONFERENCE CHAMPS, and DON'T EAT THE PINK MINT IN THE URINAL.
Ga. State is in the CAA, a conference that can get two bids... What's funnier is trying to compare yourselves to Uga and Ga. Tech. Not in athletics, academics, or anything else.
Oh, and you almost had your pants down until you @#$% yourself. We graduate two players, and three next year, and two of those three barely play..
After tonight we should have a .500 record in the conference in our 2nd year of d1 play, what do you expect us to win the conference already? It took you guys 10 years or d1 to win your regular season conference.
Comparing ourselves to in-state schools is logical, as I'm sure you guys like to see how you stack up against schools in your state as well.
The bottom line is that ETSU is in fact the premier athletic institution in the Atlantic Sun Conference. No need to get bitter at the Bucs because they are good.
BTW, all you KSU people can stop talking about taking over the conference for ETSU because the only way that is going to happen is if ETSU jumps to the Big South with my beloved Runnin' Bulldogs.
I wish GWU athletics were as solid as ETSU's, but that does not make me hate ETSU.
There's a realistic fan for ya, though you guys do have what we desire, and that's a football program. We're working on it though, and hopefully we'll be either joining ya'll or joining the Southern Conference in a very short time.
You know- realizing just how bad ETSU used to be in football- and rather mediocre in others (Hey! ETSU! Runner Up NCAA in RIFLE in 1984 or something!)- to be called "The Best Athletic Program in the Conference" is- well-
HAVE WE DROPPED TO DIVISION III?
Actually, had ETSU played the out of conference schedule Gardner-Webb did in men's basketball this season- I wonder if the two records wouldn't be much closer.
Playing at North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Georgia and Wisconsin sure made it tough to get wins.
Pitt you know I agree with you on the fact that ETSU has taken a hit coming to the A-Sun, but let's not be so ridiculous. You act like you've left the ACC or something. When exactly was the last SoCon NCAA tourney victory? Which teams were leading that conference with extreme excellence and plenty of NCAA wins? Who was picking up at large bids?
I was trying to stay out of this thread because it might be hopeless, but that is hard to ignore.
The sabbatical is over. I guess Pitt got fired again. Back to the bitching and griping.
Saying I act like the Southern Conference is the ACC is absurd. If anyone keeps things in proper perspective on the ETSU board, it is I.
However, if you do want to know, I will tell you that lifetime ETSU was 6-20 against the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Not great. But I'm guessing you didn't expect a So Con team to beat the ACC that many times.
It's a lousy winning pct.- but enough that a So Con win against an ACC team is surprising- not shocking.
I can't say that an A-Sun win against a ACC team would be anything but shocking.
Let me tell you how weak the A-Sun is. Let's say ETSU wins the A-Sun tournament this year and the next.
And that's a possibility.
Then ETSU will have made the NCAA Tournament as many times as the rest of the conference has COMBINED!
Meanwhile, listening to a national sports talk show Saturday night I heard the host talking about the possibility of the So Con getting two bids.
The A-Sun isn't a good basketball league. It's as simple as that.
But this is waaaaaay to polite to be considered SMACK talk.
G-W- your team is a loser.
Mercer- Your mother wears combat boots.
VolLover- Die on the cross!
Ah. Yes. That's better!
You, sir, are not comical in anyway in case no one has had the heart to inform you of that somber fact in the past.
Good day to you.
Now now now. You know that's not true.
Why, just today I was in the furniture store looking to buy a leather davenport.
I wanted one with tufts.
She told me it was important to buy such a davenport here in Tennessee, rather than in Alabama during the A-Sun women's tourney.
And when I asked her why- she said "Because in Alabama, the Tufts-a-loosa!"
OOOOOOOOOOOOH! HOW DO I DO IT?????????//// lmfao
we've passed west ga and valdosta..were looking at passing g-state soon.
lol.
Ga. State is in the CAA, a conference that can get two bids... What's funnier is trying to compare yourselves to Uga and Ga. Tech. Not in athletics, academics, or anything else.
Yep.
______________
Additionally, we've finally fired our head MBB coach (bought out the last two years of his contract) and are looking to hire someone to return the program to the level that "Lefty" left it with. Also, we are just a few baby steps from adding football. So before you starting thinking about "passing" Georgia State you might want to become eligible for the post-season first.
Oh yeah and that "economic hub" you were talking about? We are right smack in the middle of it.
dude whats so funny? we beat ga state all the time in sports. guarantee if we play basketball next year we beat you all.
dude whats so funny? we beat ga state all the time in sports. guarantee if we play basketball next year we beat you all.
Ok so you've beat us in a few soccer games and track meets and you believe that's going to allow you to pass us? C'mon you can't be real. Like your fellow A-Sun fan mentioned above. Georgia State is playing in a league that is on a higher level of college of basketball. One that regularly gets notoriety around the NCAA for competitiveness and toughness of play. Further, as I alluded to before Georgia State is also gearing up to take our athletics program to a higher profile, with the addition of football, and the hiring of a new basketball coach that will make us more competive in CAA play.
Meanwhile, your athletics program seems content with play in the A-Sun and continually puts off any mention of football with statements like "maybe within 10 years or so"...well they've been saying that for atleast 3 years now! So when is the countdown going to decrease?
All this and you want to say that your about to pass Georgia State, because of some victories in sports that no one ever talks about? C'mon, you don't think that is funny?
like i said..u play us in basketball next year..we will win.
oh..and do u guys have a rival team?
You have to win more than once to be considered a rival Owlzfan, sorry...
Panther keep in mind delusional Kennesaw fan apparently has been drinking the bong water again. Seriously, DON'T. As a matter of fact, it might be good if you just go on ahead and cut it down to less than a nickel bag a day.
like i said..u play us in basketball next year..we will win.
oh..and do u guys have a rival team?
So what? We beat UGA twice, once at the Georgia Dome and once in Athens. Does that mean that our entire athletics program is better then UGA? Does that mean that we passed UGA? No, and No!
Rival teams? What does that have to do with anything? But to answer your question: No we don't have a rival team, although our games against Towson have been fairly intense. But for the most part no, its a new conference with new beginnings. If we were to stay in the A-Sun we wouldn't have any rival teams either, since Troy and UCF have both gone, except maybe Mercer.
Owlzfan84, you need to sit back and take the advice of your more elder (and I mean that in an experience not age sense) A-Sun fans like Buccaneerlover, they know what they are talking about and you could learn a lot from them.
You and your friend Nick aren't just putting a cart before a horse, you are putting 10 carts before a horse.

Georgia State wouldnt schedule Kennesaw State in basketball if their life depended on it. Just because Ga State, made the MISTAKE (and yes it was a huge mistake) of joining the Colonial Conference, doesnt mean they havent been overcome by Kennesaw State. With Ingle at the helm KSU is on the fast track. About 3-5 years from now people all over the country will be asking themselves...where the heck did this Kennesaw State school come from? With 20,000 students, a new president with a progressive approach to athletics, a student body who just approved a fee increase to support athletics, and a Visionary Coach to lead the Men's Basketball Program (which will break the headwaves for all the other sports) it wont be long until Kennesaw is getting national recognition. It hasnt come yet, and I have no allusions to thinking that Kennesaw is at the point where it is dominating the conference, or has a true rival, or is even a footnote in the history of Division I Basketball....but now that the true difficult part of going Division I is over with for Coach Ingle, he will start to fill the storehouses with big time players, and help them become a great team.
It sure is fun to be supportive of a school that is on the rise, instead of a school like Georgia State or ETSU that has made poor decisions in the past 5 years, and is trying to find a way to dig themselves out of the huge holes they have created for themselves.
Go owls!
I don't see where Georgia State- in a conference where people can make the Final Four- talking about starting up football- is making mistakes.
It sounds to me like you are a KSU fan who is trying to put down the accomplishments of a much truer rival in GSU than what ETSU will ever be to you. Okay, that's what rivals do. I understand.
Georgia State is already operating in the RED as an athletic department. They recently fired their entire men's basketball coaching staff ... one of the main reasons is that they are cutting budgets on all levels. GA State cannot afford to compete in the Colonial Conference...the travel costs are much too high, and the competition too stiff for them to ever dream of advancing to a National Tournament.
GA State is also located in downtown Atlanta where there is absolutely ZERO room for expansion without incurring severe costs. Developing a football program is the least of their concerns...they are losing money, and football wont help that, it will only exacerbate the problem.
Right now GA State holds the edge over Kennesaw in the public eye because it has been in Division I for much longer and belongs to a more prestigous conference. That is why they would never schedule Kennesaw, they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
When I said that GA State made a poor decision I was speaking of their decision to leave the ASun...they should have stuck around. They would have been highly competitive, could have developed excellent rivalries with Kennesaw and Mercer, and would have had more expendable money with the ASun travel schedule so much easier for them.
GA State has a huge hill to climb in order to get out of their current situation. ETSU fans seem to be digging their own grave. They are so unhappy with their current situation they can take a minute to try and see the good in all of it. They are in a conference that they could potentially dominate. Do you think Winthrop minded going to all those NCAA tournaments? I dont think so...that is what ETSU should be focusing on...instead of seeing that they have been right close to the NCAA tournament two years in a row, they focus on slandering Murray Bartow and the Athletic Department.
That is why it is good to be a Kennesaw fan...things are looking up, and so is our fanbase. ETSU and GA State are both going and their fans are looking down.
Oh lord another delusional Kennesaw fan. You have a coach who tries to procreate to populate Chastain Road, and all we heard from the five KSU fans is how good ya'll were going to be this year. Get over it. I tell ya what, you write like you're close to the program, so get Tony Ingle to schedule a game with Davidson and CofC, that should clear a few things up as to where you really stand.
Davidson and College of Charleston are much better teams right now then Kennesaw. I am not an idiot ... especially with the recruiting class that CoC has coming in, but it wont be that way forever. How are your recruits looking at ETSU this coming season...have you heard anything new (not trying to be sarcastic, honestly want to know)..?
I don't buy your claim. It's like saying "Vanderbilt and Northwestern should drop to Division I-AA football- they'd win more."
I want to try and compete among the best. If I can score 10 points on the varsity I don't want to waste my time scoring 25 on the JV.
Georgia State is losing money. So is every other mid-major athletic department.
They are adding football and making strides to improve their program.
If KSU is content on staying in the Atlantic Sun, then their athletic program will take on the model of Mercer.
If KSU wishes to improve themselves, then perhaps they will move up in coming years as their brethern in Atlanta did.
