I found this post from the old board when I adopted that Sig line
Perhaps some took it seriously but it certainly wasn't meant that way.
It followed yet another frustrating performance by ETSU.
The only thing I ever said about Pitts is he could maybe be an assistant but I wasn't to sold on that idea

Might as well give him a shot,
Top 10 reasons

10. He is a proven winner everywhere he has coached.
9. He coaches fundamentals. We need that.
8. He teachs displine, his way or the highway. We need that.
7. Big time defensive coach, pressure all the way.
6. Be a nice feel good story.
5. He has lots of coaching contacts in high schools all over from Arby's
and other Tournaments
4. He is a well respected coach, his being named to coach USA junior
team shows that.
3. Everybody says the A-Sun isn't much more then a high school conference so we might as well have a coach to match.
2. He couldn't do any worse

And the most important reason
1 It would piss Marky Mark off so bad..

We do have to get a new coach some how some way who can teach and coach basketball not just recruit and throw them out there.
X's and O's. Sound ball... the basics..

Something has give.

Rod

My post was in response to someone mentioning George Pitts as an assistant on BArtows staff. Pitts reply to mine follows.

Quote:
As the third coach I would like to see him get a really experienced person. maybe even someone a little older who had head coaching experience himself maybe one of his dads other long time coaches. I don't know if Pitt would be a good fit as a third because that would leave him with 2 high school coaches and a third guy with only 3 years.experience. I could perhaps see Pitts in place of English but not both.

Pitts reply.

Quote:
That said, I think George Pitts might be an assistant coaching hire. That's pure speculation but I've thought about it. Pitts would certainly like to come back to Johnson City, it would be a popular hire, and supposedly even he and Wagers have a history.

As much as I hated the idea of Pitts as the head coach and think the program would be in ruin if you made him that, the natural progression for him is to be an assistant coach.

And aside from the fact I think you're academics go in the toilet if you hire Pitts, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

You know, good attempts at satire don't require you to explain yourself months later.

You were posting a signature on a board I don't post on.

And you want me to say that it was to get my goat?

Please.
you obviously were still reading it, I guess was after one of the many bans.. I lost track.

I would think the last 3 reasons would have given it awy..

RZ
You want us to believe you posted a signature on a board I don't frequent to get at me.

This is the second thread you've made to try and get to me that nobody else is going to read.

You have either been caught in a serious lie or suffering from obsession.

But while the evidence clearly indicates the former- let's hope for the latter.

After all, it would only add to my legendary superstar reputation!
I will spell it out for you.

I have never thought ETSU should hire George Pitts as its head coach for the mens basketball team. Period. End of story. You seem to be the one obessed with trying to prove that I lied about something, Plus that stuff that was posted on a board you don't frequent but seem to know an awfully lot about what went on there, over a year ago and YOU are the one who keeps bringing it back up. Get over it, come up with something new, The whole Shaw thought ETSU should hire George Pitts.. and Shaw didn't like DeChellis because he was from Penn St . Not true I didn't like Frye and I didn't like the way he hired DeChellis and his stated reasons for the hire, big difference. Its getting old.. like everything else in your routine.
It's getting old- yet you left the old board- that I don't post on- yet posted satire nobody gets to criticize me- to come here- and trade barbs with me.

You're not in the Pro Pitts camp- yet rush to defend him.

Okay!

By the way- I'm quoting here- because we've had this arguement for years and I have gotten you to come right out and say "I don't like DeChellis."

Your latest arguement was that, let's see here-

Quote:
"I do think Lebo or Peterson should have got the job and both men went on to prove they could coach and win in the SoCon."

WHAT- DECHELLIS DIDN'T? WITH LESS TO START WITH- INCIDENTILY?

Quote:
"The reasons (Frye) gave for not hiring either of those two men are the same things he listed as postives for hiring Hamilton as the football coach. .. Peterson and Lebo both had strong ties to ETSU, the SoCon and the major contacts thoughout the South"

Again, DeChellis was coming from a Big 10 program. Why wouldn't he have contacts from all over the country- including the south- which he proved to recruit as well and I think better than the people you mention.

The Bucs would not have done better under Peterson or Lebo.

For you to make this arguement is to say that you don't like Bill Cowher because Joe Greene interviewed for the Steelers job after Chuck Noll retired!

can you two ladies give it a rest? geez. Both of you are acting like children. While I realize this is the special board for you guys to shoot your mouth off it's getting rather tiresome.
Pitt I didn't leave the old board and follow you here. I notice I joined in April and you joined up 6 months later. I cross posted for a while but the old board died.

Did DeChellis do a good job at ETSU, Yep, thanks Ed.., bye. Do I think Lebo or Peterson could have had similar results? based on their peformances at Chattanoga, Tennessee Tech, Appy State and Witchia State yeah I think they could have done a good job as well. Did I like DeChellis? Not really. I Didn't know him but based my opinion on his post game shows. I didn't like how he singled out players to blame for losses and never seemed to shoulder any of the blame himself

Okay I will put the gun down that I was holding to your head forcing you to read this post. There you are free to go, I promise not to take anymore hostages.

Here Pitt, have the last word. I know that is what you are waiting on. I have explained everything to you every way I know how. I am sure you get it but you aren't going to stop until you get the word. Bring up Hire George Pitts and Rod Hates DeCHellis and any other of your other tiresome old chestnuts, they are either not true are not relevant, usaully both but keep trotting them out to build your straw men

Take it away....
Let's face facts, Rod.

This board, and ETSU opinion making in general- begins and ends with ME!

I made the old board- I made this board. You had six months to get it off the ground, as you say, and you failed.

DeChellis in post-game interviews ALWAYS took responsibility. I was there- you were listening on the radio.

There is a difference.

In fact, it was a bit refreshing. And the way ETSU has tried to spin everything that comes out of a coach's mouth since his depature is most distasteful.
I noticed that Penn State got beat by Wisconsin last night something like 79 to 45, and, they have only won 1 conference game this season. Makes me wonder if maybe some coaches wouldn't be better off staying at the "mid major" level? I realize there's a huge difference in the salaries, but, it can blemish an otherwise successful career (as in a Les Robinson - so successful at both The Citadel and ETSU, and, became a hated man (rumors I heard) while he was at NC State). DeChellis seems to be a quality person who is really struggling right now at his alma mater. Maybe the fact that Penn St is a football school will buy him some more time to turn it around. I also think of Buzz Peterson who did well until he got to Knoxville . . . . . . and what's Mike Cavan doing now?
Cavan has a desk job at Uga... He couldn't win at Southern Methodist and there were rumors that he was cheating. The action was swift considering what happened to SMU Football the last time they got caught breaking the rules.
DeChellis logged some wins against sorry ass competition, split against Northwestern, and is now in the midst of an 11 game losing streak. I wouldn't be suprised to see him maybe get one more year, but if Penn State loses out, he better hope a job opens up in the A-Sun...
I should have mentioned that Penn St played Ohio State to a 2 point game a week before.
He still lost the game. I guess it's funny how it all works out. I suspect he'll up at a school in a conference where the RPI is 20 or below, he'll win 18-22 games a year, and build a nice career. There's nothing wrong with that, Bob McKillop has made a name for himself at Davidson doing that.
