Did Garcia really jump up on the table and give the choke sign after DWash FT?

I have always admired Garcia as a player despite the fact he is a Cardinal but if this is true I have lost all respect for him as an athlete and person.
yes, but it was more of a double throat slash gesture than the classic choke sign. He did it just on Louuisville's side of midcourt on top of the press table. Right after Myles had been up there taunting our fans.

I'm sure TTwice should have some comment on it since it happened almost right in front of him.
Yes he did. And many Louisville fans on the west side of the arena were doing it at the games end prior to the nets being cut down.

And to think somebody's granny in a Tigers sweatshirt got on to me for harassing some card fans and I didn't even use a cuss word.
Gloating some after a big victory is okay. Fist pumps, number one sign, okay.

Why the slash your throat sign? What does this say about our society or may be just Louisville? I hope Garcia does not end up playing for the Grizz now.
I thought I saw Tiger Twice throw something at Garcia. He was right in front of him. At that point I was hoping for a riot to break out.
myles cussed our bench and/or the fans behind just after the game had started. and i don't respect anyone on the louisville team except o bannon. garcia is a whiner...he probably wet his pants in jubilation when dwash missed those shots because it would have been his head...i predict he'll bomb in the league...he just doesn't seem to be mentally tough enough for it at all
and oh, that ref should not have let garcia stand so close to dwash during those free throws...i'm not making excuses, but everyone else on the floor was back but garcia...he's such a punk.

tigersargh
i just hope that those a-hole 'ville fans are out of town by tonite, b/c 40 or so of my frat bros will be downtown doing a little bachelor partying for one of our "fallen". needless to say, there's not a one of them happy about today and with some alcohol and provoking, things could get interesting. proud of these tigers, showed true memphis spirit 'till the bitter end, we'll get 'em back someday, somehow. GO TIGERS!
does anyone know why the red light in the backboard indicating 0.00 on the clocks remained lit for all three free throws?

Things like this usually have a way of coming back on you two-fold. Not a very classy thing to do and he'll pay the price down the road I bet.

Good question--i will try to ask Cal on Monday night

You mean like when Washington was pointing at our bench right after the foul was called?
He did this to show what they will do in the NCAA tournament once again.
ULCARDINALS Wrote:You mean like when Washington was pointing at our bench right after the foul was called?
Finger pointing compared to throat slashing and cussing.

I surprised the ref didn't call a tech on D Wash for that.
What a stupid point. Darius pointed! What does a finger across a throat mean to you? Tigers Woods has pointed on the golf course, no one is accussing him of being a thug. Now if he throat slashed at Mickleson what would you think?

Basically this is a sad commentary of the real world background some these kids. College basketball is a way for many to be relieved of this mindset but clearly not for certain programs.

shall we pull up the comments from louisville fans 3 years ago when john grice gave freedom hall the ol throat slash?

you cant justify that kind of behavior. it is not worthy of what happened on that court today.

Kids do what kids do.

Class athletes would understand DWash's pain and give him a pat or a word.

Kids will point. Kids will thump theor chest. Kids will stay hyped.

Throat slashes and choking signs will also come from kids.

DWash is 19. Had the world on his shoulders.

Garcia is 25.

He escaped from his bad foul when the heroic kid missed.

DWash will always be heroic.

Garcia will always be a 25 year old playing a college game.
If I remember correctly, the UM community (Fans, radio, coaches and students) came down hard on Grice for his stupid actions. Coach Cal even addresses it in his post-game.
And did Grice not apologize?
I missed the throat slash. It doesn't surprise me.

To be fair though, Garcia did go over and say something to Washington as he sat on the bench before the awards ceremony started. I thought that was classy at first, then as he was walking back, it looked as if he said something to the five guys wearing T-I-G-E-R-S shirts.

It was a great game. No one should lose those type games.

I saw Garcia go over to DWash right before the awards ceremony and say something to him which I thought was very classy, but if this is true that he did give the throat slash, then what a poor reflection on him.
Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the floor. 04-cheers I hope this is not true after the effort all of the players gave. Nobody deserved that.
tigerjeb Wrote:does anyone know why the red light in the backboard indicating 0.00 on the clocks remained lit for all three free throws?
Because the clock was on 00.0.

If the game clock is at zero, the light is on...I don't think there's an off switch for it.
not that it changes anything but Garcia is 23, not 25. I don't know what Majerus is smoking when he calls our games but he always inflates Garcia's age. If FG did this I am extremely disappointed.
tigerjeb, I love that pic in your sig. I have fond memories of that year and the following... I still miss seeing DeJuan Wheat wearing the red and white.
I think Garcia got on the scorer's table to make sure RC Johnson saw him from his perch in the skyboy and signal to the Memphis AD that his days are numbered at the university.
CBS showed TigerTwice throwing his visor/hat at one of the UL players...I actually wish it had been a much harder object.
I'm pretty sure Garcia has a birthday every month if you believe what you read on message boards. 25, 27, he might even be 35!

Or actually he just turned 23 less than 3 months ago. In other words he's the same age as anyone's seniors who redshirted. I love how people act like he's a generation older than the people he's playing against.
Regardless he is old enough and has played long enough to know better.
I don't see him making it in the pro's.
Can't see a pro team putting up with that whinning, or his off nights!

Exactly what I was thinking when I read this thread. Fans always seem to have convienent memory losses.

As far as Cisco's age; do you remember the kid from the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico that lied about his age so he could pitch in the Little League World Series?

Well Cisco is from one of those islands; so he could've been confused about his age.

Remember that these are the same Louiseville fans that crap on Arkansas a log when we rushed the court when we defeated them at the Pyramid.

But if the tables were turned; how would they respond if two Tiger players jumped up on the Freedom hall scorers table?

Fans rushing the court isn't bad sportsmanship; jumping on the scorers table and acting the thug certainly is!!!
Cletus Wrote:Fans rushing the court isn't bad sportsmanship; jumping on the scorers table and acting the thug certainly is!!!
They had fans rush the court today.
Outstanding effort and game, by both teams. That is how a Championship game should be played.

If Garcia did that, he was out of line. I don't like to see players (on any team) disrespecting other teams' players or fans. I remember the two separate games in Freedom Hall where the Memphis player did the throat slashing to UofL fans late in the games, when he thought they were about to seal the win, and thought that was totally classless and uncalled for. Again, if Garcia did this...I feel the same way. Both are probably great individuals, but got too caught up in the heat of the moment and went overboard with their demonstrations. Not acceptable behavior by any means.

Good luck in the future.

fair enough - good luck in the ncaa, louisville can go far

I completely echo this sentiment. I didn't see him do it, but if he did, it is completely out of line.

actually, buddy, rc was sitting directly across from the tiger bench at the courtside table. look at the pics from today of dwash shooting the free throw in one of the posts.

I can definitely tell you he was on the scorer's table. I couldn't see what he was doing, mainly because I was trying to get my head and my computer the heck out of the way in case he fell.
Is everyone sure it was Garcia on the table. when i looked back on the tape it was MYLES that jumped up on the table and then it moves back to the rest of the Cardinals bench.
UofMgirl Wrote:Is everyone sure it was Garcia on the table. when i looked back on the tape it was MYLES that jumped up on the table and then it moves back to the rest of the Cardinals bench.
Both of them were on the table. Myles first, closer to center court, and then Garcia after Myles got down.
I asked this very question at the ITV board on a thread entitled "Players jumped on tables" Saturday afternoon and it my post was completely deleted. The only comments were of how great it was they did that!!

If our guys had done this in their house, we'd never hear the end of it from the U of L fans and C-J.

Double standards are running rampant.
Do not believe everything you read... I seriously doubt that Garcia gave the Slash Throat or Choke Sign on the scorers table... People are always making this stuff up on these forums.. Anyone have any evidence of this or is it "My cousins uncles brothers sisters girlfriend who knows a guy that lives in Memphis saw Garcia.........."

A new yet fairly good and reliable friend of mine said he witnessed it with his own eyes...only a couple of feet away.

not that it matters... it's a damn GAME.

The only thing worse than people making a big deal of something so childish and dumb*** as what Garcia did, is for people to get up in arms defending it as a good and noble thing.

It was STUPID to do, STUPID to be pissed over hours later, and WAY STUPID to defend.

Now STFU and head on back to the Ville... you're making the decent UL fans look bad.

Yeah, they can't believe their players could do such a thing, or their fans rush the court, and their coach saying this is not a rivalry, and their AD not believing the games should continue.
Come on guys I bet if Garcia had choked Washington would have ran around the arena with his hands around his neck. Don't look to deeply into this one. You guys played exceptionally well, just keep your heads up and know you were 2 points away from the tourney this year.

Washington had never shown that kind of behavior. So he pointed at the Louisbench, players do that all the time but getting up on a table and doing choke gestures is totally classless.

I thought Garcia was a punk Biatch before this game and he showed it during the game with his whining as he does in every game. But you don't becoming conference leader in fouls for nothing.

Garcia is probably telling his posse/entourage now that he knew to foul D Wash because he "knew" D Wash would miss.

Garcia better do some serious soul searching is he is going to choke at the next level.

Isn't he a junior though? Not that I really care, just making sure I had my facts straight.
