Wesley Duke worked out in front of 5 NFL teams last week on Mercer's campus. The workout went very well, the NFL scouts were impressed and surprised. There's a strong possibility that Duke could go as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent.

Very exciting for Duke and Mercer.

teams that came to macon include: Panthers, Bucs, Jaguars, Giants, & Packers.

If he's that interested and talented in football, why did he choose Mercer over another Atlanta school that plays football, and would probably be a lateral move in basketball?
I don't know him personally, so I'm sure there were many factors. He's very smart so that's why he values his Mercer degree I assume, and why he may have picked our school over a school such as UGA.

Well, he's from the Atlanta suburbs (Norcross)... maybe he wanted to get out of town?
I had also heard a couple years ago that he was offered a scholarship from UGA to play as a tight end, so it's obvious he had talent then and that he still has it. I'm not sure if thats true though.
Oh, in the article from the <a href='http://www.macon.com/mld/telegraph/11340317.htm' target='_blank'>Macon Telegraph</a> it states:

Quote:Duke played football in high school but tore his ACL as a senior at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross. Duke's uncle, Rufus Mayes, played tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals for eight years and told Duke's mother not to let her son play college football.

But now he has her blessing to give it a try, and Duke hasn't done anything to discourage the NFL.
cool I missed that part
From the NFL Draft Tracker:

That's cool to see him listed on the nfl.com site... Everyone probably knows but Duke was not drafted, however, there's still a good chance he'll get signed as an undrafted free agent. We shall see....
