Moffet was the beneficiary of two very good receivers, as both Walker and Marshall were selected in the third round of the NFL draft.
Moffet's throwing motion was horrible and he always seemed to throw high and was bailed out many times by his receivers. He would show incredible control one throw and then a horrible throw the next. The guy had no consistancy at all. Also, our defense was so bad last year, that we rarely could run our offense because we where always behind.
Kyle Israel is consistant, but is just not a play maker. He won't hurt you and he does not seem to really be able to help you much either. While I like Israel, I think we have two QB's coming in with more talent from day one. The JUCO guy, Greco will most likely be playing quickly, the freshman, Weatherford, will or should be our long term solution to the QB position.
I'll go there. I think Mike Kruczek was desperate for a spark in the team in 2003, and putting Moffett in there was his solution. Moffett should have been allowed to redshirt.
What I think challenged Moffett more than that, though, was having to learn O'Leary's system the following season. Let's just say O'Leary and Kruczek don't exactly have the same philosophies about offense.
That's not entirely correct. Moffett still had Walker to throw to in 2006. There's no question, though, that losing Marshall to graduation had a big impact on the offense.
I agree 110%.
"Bad" is an understatement. It's incredible that a defense coached by Lance Thompson (who helped direct LSU's defense during their national championship season in 2003) would be as bad as ours was in '06.
I've never seen Israel do anything to make me think he has potential to be anything more than an average quarterback. If he can at least not make a lot of mistakes, though, we might be okay as long as the running game continues to perform well and the defense shows marked improvement.
