I was just looking at the list of players that participated in Saturday's game and saw that nine freshman played (five were true freshman). I recognized many of the names from the recruiting class, and then I went to look at the roster for who didn't get any playing time.

Unexpectedly absent from the roster was Terry Mayo and Keith Houston. After a little digging I found out that Mayo had some trouble with summer classes and eligibility. Not sure exactly what the whole story is on that. I saw Brain Watters and a couple of other freshman WRs on the roster, but where is Keith Houston? He's not on the reserve list either. Do red shirt players show up on our roster, and do we know who got red shirted?

I thought these young WRs would really have a chance to step up and play this year. Willie Thornton looked good, and if the first game was any indicator, it doesn't look like Moffet is going to spread it around much again this year. So, maybe it doesn't matter.

Becasue he took too many hours durring the summer, Mayo cannot participate this Fall. He may start in the Spring or he may not. That is still up in the air.

Houston just quit, as far as I know. Remember, he was the one that had a personality clash with his HS coaches and did not play at his original school in his senior season. I guess his personality did not fit with hard-nose coaching in a team sports atmosphere.

I wish him the best, but I don't think D-1 football is in the cards for him.
